They will dig under a fence. A electric fence on the other hand works very well!!
Long story short. I have a trap-out that needs to end. Will smoke with sulfur in it kill the bees?? Also; will the sulfur smoke tant the honey that is left??
I would like to bring a hive back and...
Ace: Na, it is the field bees clustering up in the evening trying to get to mama.
I have another thread going "Hate to ask this".
Question: If I vaccum bees into a deep w/frames, with a screened top (vac. removed). How long can I keep them in there? I will put a top waterer on. ...
Ace: I put up a nuc box with a frame of eggs, etc (no queen) a catch box. My hives are 10+ miles away. Did the same thing each time (3).
Ace: I should have taken notes and photos, could have writen a book. I started this last year, got a very nice over wintered hive that I removed 6 weeks ago that is going gang busters, wintered with...
I have explained all the negaitves and he understands, however the wife got involved (enough said). The colony is in a garage. I was hopping for something to kill the bees and not tant the honey...
Second season into a trap-out, on my 3rd hive. Long story short. The owner has got stung a couple of times, the bees are getting hotter. He now wants them out or dead. I really hate to ask, but what...
Sunny: May I suggest you visit Michael Bush web site. There is a wealth of information there. From what I gather Michael is now running all 8 frame mediums and he is in Kansas, worse weather than...
I am in my mid 60's and the eyes are going with the rest of the body. Sooo before I go back to the eye Dr. I would like to know the size of a bee's egg. I would like to get an attachment for my...
Crosscombing, expanding the brood area on and on, constant fussing with the thing. In short I did not like it! Interesting at first then they did not make it through the second winter, end of that...
Another case for all mediums! Anyway, you can take a few frames with honey out and extract or let the gals rob it or freeze and use later. Replace those frames with empty frames or foundationless...
I do about the same thing in NW OH. I leave a super on from the fall flow add a super when the gals start working a few frames in the spring, then add supers before they need one. Also I have used...
I would like to see more input on "Long Hives" ! I have one, but with mixed emotions, although it over wintered well. I tryed a TBH and did not care for it, it took too much time.
What seems to work for me is alternating drawn (best) or undrawn frames with foundationless frames. My bees seem to jump on the foundationless first. Without a good folw and a lot of bees, they will...
Have the same thing here!? 3 hives? Trying to get things going by adding frames of eggs/brood, it is just a waiting game now. I am starting to think this long wet cold spring has the gals cycles all...
Good luck! I am on my second year, third hive start and haven't got all of them out yet!
I am in north west OH and have a lot that had the top soil stripped. I have managed to get grass and white dutch cover established and the endless varities of weeds. Question is: what would be good...
YJ's are nothing but no good and not native. I try to kill them all. If you think YJ's are hard on the bees, just wait untill bald-faced hornets find a hive! They are worst than skunks, because they...
Walt: Thanks again. Things are what they are, so for now it is a waiting game. A little more input. I had another hive in an out yard, that I think did the same thing. However in that case (when I...
Walt: Thanks for the reply! I realize the info. given was a little lacking. Anyway, I am not one to be messing around in the hives all the time. In this case, I observed a noticable decrese in...
To answer your question - yes the shots work!! Personal experience; untill last year I had little reaction to stings, then last year I started to get severe swelling and I mean bad! Went and got...
Walt: I replayed to another post "no eggs, no brood, no queen". Question, if superseaded are all the eggs and brood gone before a vergin begins to lay? Also; if superseaded were did the queen cell...
I have the exact same situation!! And added a frame of eggs & brood, also. I did find several queen cups (all empty), but could not find a full size queen cell opened or capped.
So WHY did they not...
