Re: 5 nuc boxes from 4'x8' plywood - cut layout

Thanks for pointing out. I missed the "medium" part. I am not interested in medium nucs. Difficult to keep them from swarming.

Re: 5 nuc boxes from 4'x8' plywood - cut layout

Thank you for posting this. I don't see how numbers in your plan to cut 5 boxes agree to numbers in Bushkill Farms website. For example number 5 on your plan calls for a 7 1/4" x 19 1/8" piece. I can...

Re: southern south america. honey bee

It has been reported that European honey bees were brought in 1658 to western hemisphere. So what you find in south America are same as the bees in north America.

    Re: Overwintering Nucs in Mediums

I started in July after the main flow. What MP says is that we need to make nucs when bees are in build-up mode. Overwintering is only one use for his nucs. Other uses are selling, using to boost...

    Re: Cold in NC

You are feeding sugar syrup. They are going out looking for pollen without regard to weather. Start feeding pollen.

Re: What happened to my bees!?!?!?!?!?

This year I treated 4 strong hives with Apiguard starting August 15th. I closed the SBB on all hives and also reduced entrances on 2 hives. The reason for reduced entrance was that I saw more mites...

When a hive decide that they no longer need drones (it happens around this time of the year when no more flow and the hive is queen-right) they will let the drones know that they are not welcome in...

    Re: Mouse guard

I guess you can install the mouse guards but can leave at least 5 holes open to allow them to fly freely without having to compete to get in to hive.

Re: guide for how much sugar to buy

I just cut a piece 5 cm x 20 cm of drawn comb I had. It weighed 18 grams. A deep frame is 20 cm x 33 cm. So the wax in the frame would be about 120 g. So if you need the package to draw out 10 deep...
