    Re: Russian VS Italian bees.

No experience with russian bees. But comparing Italian and Carnica, there is a big difference. Carnica stops whenever there is a drought cold or some other factor. Italian bees just continue to brood...

    Queen bee stinger

Hi all, I am wondering about queen bee biology. Can a mated queen use her stinger or not? I am not sure and quite interested in this topic. Any reference or experience would be useful. Thanks a lot.

According to what I read about the topic, Primorsky bees stop brooding when the nectar stops, like in a draught or similar, and then start cleaning infested cells and grooming. Kind of a natural...

Re: Best hive for backyard hobbyist?

Re: after swarming - no queen or no eggs?

Check for eggs, if no eggs, ther is no queen. After three weeks you should have laying queen. Queens start laying after mating.
    Good info here:...
  14. Re: Weak hive, laying worker(s), with queen - What to do?

Shake the bees out and put the boxes on the other hive.Bees will find the way to join the other hive, drone layer wont.
  15. Re: Help needed, PF 100 Mann Lake, shipping to Serbia

The lady from Mann Lake confirmed that the cell size is indeed 4.9. The only difference between PF100 and PF200 is in the wax coating. PF200 has no wax on it.

I found a closer source of 4.9mm wax...

  17. Re: Help needed, PF 100 Mann Lake, shipping to Serbia

Another question: regarding the cell size, are PF-100 and PF-200 the same cell size? The difference is that PF-100 has a wax coating, which I don't want.

    Re: first treatment with OA

Mites are hidden in the brood. You need to treat multiple times to reach most of them. Like three or four times, 6 to 7 days apart.

Re: Oxalic acid vaporisation and cold temperature

Thanks Axtmann, I was suspecting that such a thing could happen. I know that people do use dribble OA treatment when it's few C grades bellow zero, but vaporization is somewhat different.
