Re: Moving bees from nuc to full hive

I think that sounds like the best plan. I will set it on top of the empty hive for a couple of days, obstructing the entrance, then move them into the new box. Thanks for the ideas.

Re: Moving bees from nuc to full hive

Good ideas Moots. There are 2 other hives, 1 to each side of the hive I'm moving into, 1 of which is directly between the the nuc and new hive. With lots of new brood emerging, would the loss of the...

I have had top bar hives for 2 years now and want to try something different, so I built two horizontal deep Langs. I have quite few extra top bars with empty comb. My question is, would it be a good...

Re: small hive beetles made it

How long do the adults live? Seems that the ones in the cluster have been around since at least November, when the first freezing temps hit our area. Will they soon die of old age?

    Re: Should I smoke?

Along those lines, has anyone dropped a bud or two into their smoker to see what effect it has on the bees? Maybe the mites would get buzzed and fall off of the bees!

TNT, I was wondering how it went with the long hives this past year. Especially, how did the frames being oriented the long way in the hives compare to the ones being oriented across the hive? I am...

Re: Inhaling Beehive Air - Apitherapy

Bernhard, that is one large drone cell on that hive! I wonder how many mites could reproduce in there?

AMDRO ant block, sprinkled around the perimeter, has kept the ants out of the hives, and sprinkled around my house has kept the ants out of my house. I wish there was something that effective, and...

Beautiful Zinnias, Sticky Bear! I planted 2 pound of zinnia seeds last year and had the most beautiful zinnia patch- but not one bee was ever seen on them. The butterflies, on the other hand, were...

Late Planting of Bok Choy- Beeyoutiful !

I too have a pool, about 50 yards from my hives. The hives face toward a small, slow moving stream about 15 yards away. On any nice summer day, there may be 20 or so bees at the pool. They don't...
