GFS, European, and Canadian Models... I must state, it's my profession, weather that is.... Just a trend as of today... we'll see if the modeling still has this around early next week. It stood...
  4. Re: Heads up.. May could bring an unusual Spring Freeze to warm states in the S & SE

Nice! Here's hoping we don't see this show up. I've got 4 new hives... really need the nectar flow to keep on keeping on!
  5. Heads up.. May could bring an unusual Spring Freeze to warm states in the S & SE

Just a heads up... Cut-off low may bring a chance for already warm areas to experience an unusual spring freeze late week of May 3. Southern States etc... If it materializes, the already active...

Re: What to do with Hive that didn't survive

That's the route I'm taking. Lost two Warre's.. but the post mortum, had no major disease issues or critters... will repopulate, and use several drawn frames for the packages... head start.. heck...

Re: Too Late for a new Queen?

Had a package hive toss the queen mid July. They produced another. Mind you, my immediate thought was to intervene, but I opted to let the ladies handle it. They did. The hive has recovered and it...

Re: Amateur question about drone cells

Let the bees be the bees. They will regulate the drone population as needed. It will vary through the year.

    Re: Please, please help.

Just tossing this out there... might be an opportunity to consider going to the Warre hive set up and try giving a different approach a go. Replace with Langs, but toss in a few Warre's and see how...

Re: Thinking ahead to a new queen in the spring

If you haven't, it might be worth a read. I guess that a lot of the re-queening philosophies boil down to what your philosophy is towards beekeeping. Might want to take some time and read through...

Re: Thinking ahead to a new queen in the spring

Let it ride... unless she's failing, can't think of any good reason you should re-queen. I had a new hive of package bees supersede the queen just a few weeks ago. Seems to me, they will take care...

    Bees & Roundup ?

The Farmer, where I have my apiary, asked me today if the application of Roundup near the hives would be a problem or cause them harm. Mostly organic land, nothing else used on the acreage.
