I have been told that very rarely does cold kill bees but moisture gets them every time. I run my entrances the same as I do in the warmer months, wide open. I also have smaller top entrances. This...
  2. Re: What are your thoughts on using medium supers exclusively?

I use deeps for brood and mediums for honey supers. Brood boxes are no where near as heavy as honey supers so the deeps are no issue that way. Easier to use deeps for brood due to commonality and...

    Re: Queen breeder box placement

Whatever you do to make each entrance "unique" will work I think. I used different shapes and each shape was a different color. I was feeling artistic:D!

    Re: Queen breeder box placement

I would spread them out and draw different shapes (in paint) around the entrances. This should improve your success.

Re: Getting queen into cell cup cage

Practicing picking up drones first and then go get her and put her in. I also am fond of using the queen clips for picking queens up. They are found in most all the catalogs now.

I started doing an alcohol wash 4 years ago on all of my hives and treating the ones I felt I had to treat. I do this once a year in very early July and treat also in July with no honey supers on. ...
  15. Re: First scraping and reuse of plastic foundation... pf-120's
