Re: What does a swarm hive need?

When would you suggest doing a full inspection?
When should I remove the queen excluder?
    Thanks so much!

What does a swarm hive need?

    All,
On Thursday afternoon, I caught a swarm from one of my hives and successfully moved it into a box with a queen excluder on it to keep them in the box.
Today, (Saturday), I was watching the...
  4. Re: How do you tell which of your hives a swarm came from?

You could do an inspection and if you see queen cells, it would be a fair guess that it came from it. I just had one of my hives swarm, 10 days after I did a full inspection on it. I saw no QCs...

I am considering selling whole hives that over wintered. The customer will know the genetics are strong and that the hive will produce honey the first year. I would sell a single deep with a medium...

    Re: Best ventilated bee suit?

I saw the "fencing" type veil and got one to give it a try.

    Re: Wooden Hive Top Feeder

I have not experienced that. If the resin is mixed properly, it will harden completely and have no smell, whatsoever.

    Re: Wooden Hive Top Feeder

It is sold in auto part stores under the name of "fiberglass resin". I've seen it in WallyMart and Home Despot, too.
I cut fiberglass cloth in 2 inch strips to cover all of the seams on the feeder....

    Re: Wooden Hive Top Feeder

I use a polyester resin to totally seal the feeder. Water tanks are made out of polyester resins so it is totally safe for the bees once it has hardened.
It is virtually indestructible under normal...

    All,
I have a hive that has wintered in a single 10 frame deep box. I tried to add a second box in the fall but they just weren't drawing out the frames, so I removed it for the winter and planned...

    Re: Pollen Grinder

I open feed my pollen and don't make patties. The bees seem to go more for the raw pollen as long as it is fine enough for them to pack in their pollen baskets.

    Pollen Grinder

    All,
I need to find a way to grind up pollen into a fine powder so the bees can take it up. I found that if I don't grind it up, the bees are unable to carry it due to its unground size. I...

    Re: 2 to 1 syrup...wrong mixture?
