  1. Re: Killing an Africanized hive but preserving the honey

To be precise I do not wash my dishes, the dishwasher does and it does a much better job than I would do. :) My dinner ware is also not considered to be a sponge like wax is.
    What I am saying that...
  2. Re: Killing an Africanized hive but preserving the honey

I too have done some removals on very grumpy bees. What I have done is suck it up as long as my suit was protecting me. Do the removal, use your bee vac and capture all the mean defenders. Once...

So I think I just fouled up big time.
I have decided to start marking my queens. When I found one of my queens today I decided to mark her. It is a small colony and smoke was not required to look at...

Re: Getting Dead Bees out of Cells

I agree with brooksbeefarm. Tap the frames on something and those that do not fall out will be removed by the new bees.

Re: Deep hive bodies out of 1by 10s ?

I make most of my own equipment. For deeps you have to get 1x12s and rip them down.
  9. Re: Pollen & Feeding bees to make them stonger??

I use the same style of pollen feeder as ccaar2000. It works like a charm as the ladies can take only what they need and I assume protect if from SHB.
I also use the Mega Bee from Mann lake and...

    Re: washing Jars

    Max,
I may have been incorrect in stating they were sterile, but my dishwasher has a "sanitize" cycle. When the jars come out they are so hot I can not touch them with out fear of burning myself....

    Re: washing Jars

It just takes alittle bit of extra time to run them through the dish washer. When they come out they are clean and sterile. I have opened several cases of jars and they had a smell on the inside...

Being in Texas we have pretty warm winters. I had some granulate not long ago. Just last week we had temp up in the 70's. I placed the honey on the dash of my truck in the sun. It was...

moving bees when it is cold

Looking at moving bees tomorrow. My question is, our high temp is expected to be 71 f with a low of 46 f. I would be moving them at night so the temps would be in the 50s to 40s. Bad idea? any...
  14. Re: What do you do when encountering african bees for a cutout?

I have done some removals where they bees were very aggressive. If you have started the removal and it is at some ones home, I think you should complete it.

I will be following this thread. Looking forward to doing something very similar to this in the spring. The exception is that I will be running mediums and not deeps.

  19. Re: Going to get our first cutout this weekend. Questions.

You can use window screen to lock them in. Just make sure it is secure. I would feed them 2:1 syrup, you will have to feed them all winter and there is still the chance they may not make it. ...
