    Re: Warning to the wise

I ain't gonna reread this whole thing but I was sure the topic was feeding bees so they don't starve. As usual...I missed the whole point.

    Re: Warning to the wise

Getting slammed here. Maples bloomed as usual. Bees went on a brooding bender. Then a freeze that appears to have taken out tulip poplar blooms and heaven knows what else. Then the monsoon struck....

    Re: "Bees don't read ..."

Whatever you do.....when making 'newspaper splits.....never use the sports section of the paper. Girls hate that! Plus....it'll keep the drones in the hive reading when they ought to be flying.

Re: color of a marked queen

An interesting difference of experience. Every queen supplier I've used, with the exception of Hardemans, have followed the code.

Re: color of a marked queen

Kelley gets their bees and queens from Hardeman's Apiaries in Mt Vernon, GA. As long as I can remember they've marked their queens white....regardless of convention.
    It's a new queen.

    Re: Package incident

Are they both drawing new comb? If so, I'd think you could go ahead and release queen number 2.

    Re: feeding back medicated syrup

If I read this correctly, you aren't intending this as a substitute for medication but simply to avoid wasting it. If it was fed to the original colony in the proper dose, it shouldn't be an issue to...

    Re: Strange spring

Swarms are an entirely different matter. I've seen a number of hives that were either in late stage swarm prep or had already done the deed. I think the maples were right on schedule and triggered...

That is interesting Tim. You are a bit higher in elevation and I would suppose you are ordinarily behind us in blooms. No wisteria blooming here...maybe that freeze last week got 'em. Although I've...

    Strange spring

Following what, for us, was an unusually long and cold winter we've had a very strange spring. February the maples started blooming and the bees were bringing in significant amounts of nectar....then...

    Re: Queen Bank for 12

I do mine like Mark, sqkcrk, suggests. I try to get them into their new homes within a week or ten days. But last season I had some that were banked that way for over 45 days and they were largely...

    Re: Stinky deadout

I've never heard anyone describe decaying bees as inoffensive....can't imagine it. If there is moisture in the hive....not ice....then any dead bees will be decaying.
