Re: When to hive a split?

The two nucs I bought this year had 7-8 frame sides of wall to wall capped brood each. This would be really pushing it. I think that when they had hatched they would have swarmed.

    Just a look at...

    Sticky: Re: Pollination prices

I think it is recommended to have 3 hives per acre for cranberries. I'm looking into it for a bog near me.

I'm not out yet, but one hive is three deeps and four mediums. Getting tall. I started pulling full boxes, and storing them. Thanks

I have 5 hives that came out of winter. 3 full size hives are doing great, really building up. The over wintered nuc is doing great. But one full size, is't so full size any more. Not building up...

    Re: Time for some feedback

Looks good. Did you start out with no foundation or comb? Looks like there are some rubber bands, did you give them some comb from the top bar?

    Re: Egg/Brood Pattern

My hives are much bigger, but I don't know what is usual (my first year). I'm in Killingworth, so our hive should be about the same.

    Re: overwintered nucs

Re: "Opening the brood nest" questions

    Thanks Michael

So I'll wait a little longer. There are some Black Locust around the bend that I can keep an eye on. Also I'll watch and see when they start to really build up.
