I'm in the same boat as you. I hived a 3lb package on May 14th and all the bars are fully drawn out and mostly full of brood and honey. The brood combs all have capped honey at the top and the honey...
I might try some silicone. I'm going to Home Depot in the morning so I'll see what they have there
I'm building a TBH with an observation window and should be ready to glue the lexan panel in tomorrow afternoon. Any ideas what kind of glue would be the best to use? Something that will bond good...
With your TBH setup I wonder if you could use the NUC box area below as a honey super (or lower lol). With a queen excluder between the hive and the box below and using either top bars,...
Thanks for posting your experience. I've considered getting a NUC at some point and it's good to know what does and doesn't work!
Btw your TBH looks great! Was it built from plans? I'm especially...
I've only been stung once myself but it started itching like the devil on the second or third day so I put some Tiger Balm on it and that made the itching stop. Also works well on mosquito bites and...
Thanks for all the responses! These little creatures really are quite amazing. I'm quite new to bee keeping and still in the fascination stage (not sure if that will ever change!)
It seems they...
Interesting! Is there a general time frame that they progress through each job? If summer bees only live around 6 weeks do they spend a week or two in each job or does it vary?
How is it decided which bees will become nurse bees, field bees and guard bees? Is there an HR bee that gives out the assignments or something? :p
I wanted to get a BeeWeaver package and queen but they were sold out already by the time I had decided to take the plunge so I ended up getting a package of Italians from R Weaver and one of their...
I was kind of surprised how calm they were when I pulled the bar... I didn't smoke them or anything and they just kept on doing what they were doing, crawling around on the comb! Not even that many...
Idk if the clover is in bloom here. I'm in a suburb but there are some decent sized fields around my house. The field bees always seem to be coming back with loads of pollen though. I'm gonna build...
Yes they are definitely building starting away from the window and working towards it. Not sure if it's Lexan or Plexiglas but they definitely know it's there, even with the wood cover over it.

Thanks! And I certainly didn't have anything to do with it! I'm just hoping I didn't mess up by putting beeswax on the bars as a guide. After I did it I read on Michael Bush's site that he recommends...
Looks like 6 combs so far. I didn't pick the bars up just slid them back a little to take a look at each comb and make sure they were straight and not connected to each other or anything. A few bees...
That makes sense, I didn't know they only visited one type of flower at a time.
I think I'm going to peek in and check on them in a little bit here. I'm gonna try and just take a look...
Well it's day seven now since I hived my package of bees. I made a couple of mistakes in the process... namely when I put the queen cage in I forgot to take the cork out. And of course I didn't...
