Great book. If I had to buy it again. I would purchased volume 1 2 and 3 separately. One book with 3 volumes in it make it a little difficult to find what I need. For the money its worth every penny.

I check my hives once a month for mites with a sticky board. If I find one mite. I put in a drone comb to trap the mites.
I wouldn't take the honey. Let the bees build up more stores till you have enough stores for them to get through another winter. I like 100 lbs for the bees. if I get more honey I can take some for...
My black lab followed me once down to my hives. The bees chased him out and never went back again. when I walk to my hives now. he stays back. lol. smart dog

I like to leave 100lbs for the bees.

This time of year I should have a 2" snow pack on the ground. The grass is starting to get green now.
if you have flowers on them. there done for the year. lets hope it wont happen. I think its going to be a tough year for agriculture.
I have the same conditions here. Monday night it could go down to 20 degrees. there's goes all my blossoms.
pros
more bees
more honey
more bee space for the queen to lay eggs
good way to help prevent swarming.
don't have to feed sugar
cons
I wont take any honey from my hives till I get 100 lbs stores for each hive. We cant predict our weather here. I have about 40lbs stored on my hives now. I hope we have a decent spring. if all goes...
I don't agree the bees are the problem. if people stay away from other peoples hives our bees wont be a problem. what makes you think your bees are the problem. its a wast of money if you feel you...
I'm not going to do anything different. The temps are safe now to take off the cover and put on a piece of fondant. my hives are building up nicely. its to early to get in and pull the hives apart....
The weather we are getting in northeast is not normal for this time of year. I cant remember having temps in the 70s this time of year. I wouldn't put your snow blower away yet.
if I had a neighbor that didn't like my bees. I would tell him. you have 3 areas to live in our country. city, suburbs and rural areas. country is the best place to have bees. put 10 more hive in....
Nice looking hives. it looks to me you still have some honey left in your hive. I.m using the same cover you have with the foam board. your way will work fine. how I use my board. The high side of...
I wouldn't worry to much about a hive that's not covered. what I would worry about is the hive has enough honey stores to get it through the winter. march weather can be very changeable during the...
I think 50 cents is more than enough to pay somebody to assemble your frames.
I use Elmers wood glue.
Its to early to think about spring in the north east. I have a Gut feeling March is going to be a very nasty cold snowy month. in my area we can get snow in May.
I tapped on the hive and listen to the singing. No need to take off the cover.
Nice site. I wonder if we could listen to the podcast on sirius satellite radio.
