Re: Where are you on the tree of knowledge

I've been keeping bees since I was a kid, 55 some years ago, and I can say I've learned a lot from bees. They haven't learned anything from me. I'm afraid to imagine why.
    I've never actually...

    Ants in my ObH

Ants are crawling up the outside of my foundation and into the entrance of my ObH. Does anybody know of a Bee safe ant deterrent?

    Re: Glass or acrylic/plastic

1/4” Laminated Safety Glass is best. We spec. all our hives for it. Indeed it’s heavy and expensive.
It’s indestructible, easy to clean and the Bees build less comb on it. Buy 3/16” from your glass...

    Curious.

  9. What’s the most popular frame style/size in the UK?

    Hey UK Beekeepers.

In the USA and many international countries the Langstroth 19” x 9 1/8” x 3/8”, Deep frame seems to be the most used, and then the Medium and Shallow.

    I exchange a lot of...

    Re: observation hive entrance

All of the above is right on. We’ve tested both entrances: top and bottom. It doesn’t seem to make much difference to the welfare of the Bees. We use a bottom entrance for engineering reasons. The...
  11. Re: Winter Banking Multiple queens in Observation hive

5 frames might be a bit sparse for an ObH, especially if it's only 1 frame wide, witch inhibits "clustering", indeed a 5 frame ObH requires more maintenance.
