What a fascinating journal of your first orange grove experience! Thanks for sharing and please let us know how it ends up.
We started with 2 hives late last summer and harvested 13 gallons (~160 lbs) by mid July of this year. We added 4 more hives in late May and left the bees what they gathered for winter stores. ...
wow! I'm just up Hwy 64 from Rutherfordton closer to Morganton and have NO goldenrod or aster honey...but I've seen lots of it growing around here. Strange but congrats that your bees are still...
Congratulations! Sounds like you have good things happening with your bees. :applause: I overwintered 2 hives and added 4 in mid May. Ended up getting over 10 gallons of honey and was very...
When my husband is in the swimming pool, the bees land on him and drink water off his skin...strangely, he enjoys this...
Excellent work! Thanks for sharing. :)
We're new at this so sounds like we may be going to extremes...after the bees clean them up, we put them in the freezer for at least 24 hours then store them in the supers in large plastic bags.

$5 - 12 oz bear
$2 - baby bears
I'm adding 1# Muth jars for $10 this Saturday - we'll see how...

Welcome! I'm still in my first full year - started about this time last summer. Sounds like you're off to a great start! This forum is a great resource with a lot of expertise and sharing.
I was advised to NEVER use bleach because the bees are VERY attracted to the smell of chlorine.
We harvested honey for the first time last weekend. We borrowed a hot knife but it must have gotten too hot - smoked and got burned black honey on it. We tried a scratcher and it worked much...
You got my vote - Good Luck!
Now that is a beautiful bee box!:applause:
That's heartbreaking! So sorry to see that.
Love it gmcharlie! Can't wait to tell my husband your simple solution...he does worry about mowing down the girls...;)
I'll post more when I look deeper. Thanks for the thoughtful replies - this is my first year and having this forum as a resource has helped a lot.
Thanks AB! Great reference article.
I looked at some Google images for both wax moth and small hive beetle larvae and the ones we saw were so thin they looked more like SHB. This weekend I'll have to take a deeper look I guess. The...
I wish I had taken a picture but didn't...if I see more I'll be sure to get pics.
We changed out a box about 2 weeks ago and the new one has a screened bottom board with a slider board to allow you to close it up when needed. The weather has warmed up so much we decided to remove...
Looks like they're doing great. Congratulations!
