    Re: Entrance for winter?

I leave open one 7/8 " hole, The bees adjust the size as needed from there.
  2. Re: Help with yellow jackets - don't understand making hive entrance smaller

Yellow jackets are always worse in the fall. You can hang a yellow jack trap up nearby. But as explained above, you should close down all your entrances except one. I also make sure i seal off and...

Re: SHB: is this a true statement

Thats odd, because i was going say the opposite. My Warre's and modified Langs seem to have more SHB. Another reason i'm transforming them into KTBH's. I'm down to one Warre from three.

    Re: Brood location

You need to start the bees on the end with the entrance. They will make their brood nest there.
  8. Re: Please help me with the final setup of my first TBH

You could try setting your legs in metal coffee cans or maybe some large, thick PVC caps if you can find them.

Super easy even with messy gloves and helps keep the comb centered.

    Re: Follow board question

Follower boards aren't supposed to fit tight. If it fit tight there would be no way to let the hive breathe. The only reason for bees to want to build on the other side of it would be severe...

    Re: In the NORTH

And the answer is.....The rot that hollows out a tree almost always starts in the trunk. So. Even the very rare large enough hollow limbs for bees to live in were mostly started in a hollow trunk....

    Re: In the NORTH

There's a very good reason bees use hollow tree trunks instead of hollow limbs.

Re: My new Top Bar Feeders

In the bottom photo you can see the entrance. You put that side towards the bees. You shouldn't need a follower board with it. I can also make the feeder to fit different hives.
