Re: Why are these two hives not building?

My two overwintered (and recently split) hives are a hop skip and jump north of you and doing just fine. One is a boomer and the other very strong. Last look I saw honey being packed in. Seems you...

Re: Making sense of my hive check

I made a bee math mistake looks like. I thought emerge after 8 days for some reason. Still puzzled why I have larva and uncapped queen cell in hive 4. Slightly possible a queen could have come along...

Re: Making sense of my hive check

Thanks mike. It just seemed two newly split and two newly formed hives shouldn't be swarming, with room to lay. I heard the locust flow was good. My hives do have quite a bit of uncapped honey. I...

Re: Making sense of my hive check

Hmmm. Well.. My queens were over wintered Italians from California. (Oliverez). Hived from packages a year ago. No issues with them all last summer. They built up well, gave me a ton of honey and...

Making sense of my hive check

Kind of strange hive check today. Here is the story. May 23 I split my two hives into four. Hive 1 and four were queenless. May 26 I checked and found queen cells in hive 1, at least four cells and...

Re: Did they kill the queen? (Package install)

You could begin to make plans for a new queen now. Such as where to buy, how to pay, when to order, etc. Be 100% ready to go IF you dont have eggs/larva in a week or so.

    Re: Crowded hive advice

Re: Two new hives, one is in trouble

I see a queen cup in those pictures. Anyone else see this? Specifically, #4 above on the right hand side. A queen cup is not much of a concern, it may be nothing, or it may be the hive trying to...

    Re: morels

One thing to note here. In order to properly ID some wild mushrooms, the entire "root" system is needed. For Morels, it should be OK to leave that in the ground as advised above. While gathering...

  14. Re: Is this normal? First complete hive check since November

  15. Re: Is this normal? First complete hive check since November

Good point about notch on top. IN this case, I dont think it would have mattered though. But.. Ill tuck that point away. I guess I thought the live bees did spring cleaning and took out dead bodies...
  16. Is this normal? First complete hive check since November

I finally had a good weather window and time to open my two living hives. What an awful site inside. One hive had so many dead bees piled it couldnt use the landing board and front door area. They...

    Re: When to make splits?

I am targeting first weekend in May for my splits. Or if the weather is good, last weekend in April. I think this is pushing it though, based on what others in my area have told me.

    FYI - I saw...

Re: Feeding in 35 degree weather
