Re: randy oliver reviews a new Dr. Lu paper

To clarify, the original post is only a link to Oliver's article on his homepage, and not actually his own post here on Beesource. If you want to reach him you'll need to go to his page.
  2. Re: Has anyone placed hives near a dusk to dawn light or a metal building?

Mine are attracted to the lights of the house. It causes some losses, especially as the weather cools.

Ok, that made me laugh but I had to fix it because I know it will be off in the weeds in no time. :)

    Re: For Sale Forum

Michael Palmer sold out of 100 queens in a matter of hours. Of course, the quality of the queens and the reputation of the seller accounts for most of it, but it's still a testament to the validity...

  8. Re: Pick your poison: (1) frostbite; or (2) heatstroke.

Our climate is decent, but this year has been especially nice. Mild winter and a very cool and relatively wet spring and summer. The humidity here is almost non-existent, but that translates into...

Thanks. Turns out if you pay a law office enough they'll do it themselves. :)

    Re: Dry land beekeeping

You'll be fine. You can provide a water source for them and there is enough forage for them to do ok I think. If you could get them closer to the mountains you would gain some wild flower forage.

    Re: Dry land beekeeping

If you could be more specific about location it would be helpful.

You can keep bees pretty much anywhere in New Mexico, but they aren't going to produce those 100 lb harvests that they get in...

Re: Bad beekeeping, worse TV reporting

There is no way those hives are AHB. If they were, they would have been pouring out of hives by the thousands instead of a couple of dozen. The 5-gallon bucket he's carrying around along with the...

    Bad beekeeping, worse TV reporting

This is from Albuquerque. The beekeeper let his hives get out of control, which provided the opportunity for a poor reporter to ham it up...

    Re: one more time

Upload the photos to a hosting site like Photobucket. It's free. Then copy the link to Beesource either as a link or the actual image. Make sure you resize the image so it's not too big to load here.

    Re: Political signs...

They work well if you need to set empty supers down on a solid surface with a pretty good seal to keep critters out. If you get some weight on them they'll deform a bit and form a nice barrier. At...

Re: When do we check the hives???????

You disrupt the colony when you pull frames out for inspections. The less you disrupt them, the more opportunity they have to do the things they need to do. On the other hand, you need to know what's...

  25. Re: When do you guys feel comfortable not to wear protection?

I guess I've had bees for around 15 years. I usually wear a hooded jacket and gloves if I'm going to open a hive and manipulate frames. If I'm hiving a swarm I sometimes go without either, but once...
