Cedar Chips in a Storage Unit

The title pretty much sums up the question. I have a 10x20 storage unit that has a bunch of rough lumber that I need to plane down so I can use it to build. I am expanding next year so I am putting...

Re: What to do with frames

If you have capped honey, why don't you just take it off and use it for yourself and take the capped brood and pollen and add it to your other hive? In my book, there is no such thing as too much...

    Re: Farm land of Forest

I personally think a mixture of both farmland and forest is ideal for bees. Both of my beeyards have farmland which provides a lot of early forage and by the time the trees start to bloom, the fields...

    Re: side entrance question

If you make a side entrance, how big is it? I understand how it could help with robbing as well as how it could be warmer. However, how big of an entrance do you make?

If you had a side entrance, what would be an advantage that a front entrance wouldn't provide?

    Re: side entrance question

I've never seen anyone with side entrances. I use front entrances as well as upper entrances when I add several supers. I have never done a side entrance.
  11. Re: Is this a reasonable way to split hives?

That is not a bad way to do it. I personally will split the mother hive and divide the frames equally. I brush the bees off of the frames I am putting into my Nuc and then set the box without bees on...

    Re: Medication Question

Thank you for your input and that is the way I have thought, staying treatment free unless a condition arises. I guess I was thinking when you increase your numbers, there is a greater chance of...

    Medication Question

I have kept bees for a while and always been treatment free. I was wondering if it is best to remain treatment free until a problem arises then treat the problem with the appropriate medication or is...

    Re: Popcorn Tree?

I certainly understand where you are coming from with that last piece of advice. Just hearing what an invasive species this tree is, makes me think twice about planting seeds. I like the idea of the...

Re: Best way to move bees

AM temps are around 75-80 usually, not much cool down at night. That makes good sense about the brood temperature, I didn't think about that but just using a screen on the entrance and a normal top...

  23. Re: Experience with liquid Sevin dust and roundup

I will keep them away from this for at least a week then. Ive got too much money into these ladies to have them killed by sevin. I appreciate the imput from you all.
  24. Re: Experience with liquid Sevin dust and roundup

The consensus is to move as far away from sevin as possible for at least 24 hours? Roundup is okay and is not that harmful to bees?
