Re: Help me find the queen

I chased a queen for three months until I finally got her on a frame. Every time I opened the top she went to the bottom of the hive mixed in with the workers. Saw her one time on the inside wall,...

    Re: Don't see this everyday....

That is exactly what got my cousins and I into beekeeping this past year. Last year in November we found an open comb hive in a pecan tree facing south west on a limb about 6 feet off the ground. It...
  4. Re: What flowers are supplying the polen in NC now? (northwest Piedmont)

I do have a sasanqua (sp?) or camelia blooming right now. Not sure which. Noticed it the other day. I know it is early, but it had some blooms around the bottom. Same at the farm 1.5 hrs away. Bush...
  5. Re: What flowers are supplying the polen in NC now? (northwest Piedmont)

Today it was bright orange and gobs of it. Last week it was orange and light tan.

    Re: Some incoming fresh pollen

Mine were flying today and bringing in gobs of orange pollen. Looked like it was more pollen than a month ago. I have no idea where they are getting it from since we had a freeze last week....

Re: How many of you started with just one hive?

Bought two this year and then 6 weeks later bought two more. Meant to say nucs. Now I have 4 full hives in the first year and want about 6 more this coming year.

Re: Late season Queen Marking attempt

Probably safer not to do it. With that being said, I opened my only unmarked queen hive Saturday and low and behold - there she was. She is a shy thing and this was the first time I had found her on...

Search and you will find the correct glow plug to use. Can't remember the number right now but it was around $10.00. Get your aluminum off of ebay and thread your own rod. Total cost of mine after...

    Re: What is this?

Ok. Makes sense. It is really cool here for this time of year. Only the two bigger hives of the four are doing this so far.

    What is this?

It has been there for quite a few weeks and seems to be getting some new streaks every so often. 13896. It seems to be coming out of a vent hole that I covered up with a strip of wood back in July.

    Re: Puzzled Here: Input/Info Needed

Not an expert, but You can start feeding. Mine two weaker hives started building more comb the minute I poured the feed to them. They were early July starts.

Re: All the talk about goldenrod....

Same thing here. I have been inside with a back injury and driving down the road yesterday I got excited at the new blooming goldenrod. My wife looked at me like I was still on pain meds. Then the...

Re: White mark on some of my bees?

Pics? I had some bearding yesterday and saw something white in the middle of the beard. With a hurt back and no suit I did not get close for an inspection. Is the white mark big or really small?

If it helps, I was worried about placing mine this year when I started. They ended up 45 ft from the property line in morning sun and afternoon shade. They are in full view of one neighbor and...

    Re: Is this a problem?

I tried with popsicle sticks and they closed off the entire crack in thr top. In my short time with bees, I would recommend Possum's rule #1 - let bees bee bees. They will do what's best for them in...

    Re: Is this a problem?
