    Re: Chilean Queens

Why Olivarez? There are plenty of other breeders in N Cali. Many of which produce a higher quality queen imo. I will never buy queens from Ray. Guy has no respect for beekeepers around him.

    Re: Protein Patty recipe

Vitamin C helps with drone fertility but that's about all I can think of. If your using Juice to lower pH, try using citric acid. Cheaper and you don't have the unnecessary moisture.

Re: Cold Climate Northern Bees Nucs

Many beekeepers winter bees with Cali queens in Canada successfully. Their temps are way lower than yours.

    Re: Never requeen

Most com beekeepers requeen because exposure of chemicals from pollination crops and mite treatments reduce life of queen and young queens have lower tendency to swarm.

HFCS is 77% solid. 270 a drum is expensive for hfcs. You will get better build up on 1:1 sugar.

    Re: Mandarin pollination?

Depends on the acreage. If its a small 10-30 acre orchard the chances are slim. Also depends on the weather. The dry springs don't help the orange blooms.

    Re: Mandarin pollination?

I place mating nucs all over N cal on mandarins. Bees don't ever make honey since there are thousands of hives around but it sure does keep them busy from robbing.

Viper bugloss grows in abundance in my area. Makes a white honey and gives off high protein pollen. It is invasive and gets sprayed by the state.

Whats wrong with having smelly buckets? Throw in some essential oils in your syrup and your buckets will smell like lemongrass after a few times.

Re: ALL IN, sink or swim!

There are plenty of almond growers and brokers that will take your bees. Your best bet is to find a beekeeper sending a partial load to almonds that way you can jump in.
