    Re: Honey Harvest 2014

    Makes my mouth water. :applause:

As for the wax... put it in a pan with some water and boil it for a short time and then pour the wax and water through a paper towel into a plastic container. ...

    Re: They Killed Her Majesty

If there's three cells in there then I'd let them bee.

Your dead on about the queen being in the 10th picture. Really dark. Maybe call her "Black Beauty" LOL!!

Re: Make your own Honey Sticks

Is there anyone on the forum that's bought one of these that would like to share their experience with this set up?

Re: Make your own Honey Sticks

Have you made a video yet? I don't see a link but I thought I've seen one. How about a picture of the finished product. Do you have to go thru and trim the ends after you seal them? Is everything...
  9. Re: Hived a new swarm, 5 minutes later they moved into an occupied hive.

Could they have swarmed from that hive originally? Maybe go throw that one and see if there's open queen cells or newly torn down ones.

Have you ever put a frame of open brood in a new swarm? ...

Re: Brood in honey super and what to do?

Are you running two deeps and a super or one deep and a super? If its two deeps then yes your right on track. I'd crack the lid so the drones could leave if they need to and the bees could go right...
  11. Re: Is it too late to put a honey super on?

I wouldn't bother with a queen excluder at this point if your adding a super. It may really slow the bees down. If you want some honey maybe think about pulling a frame or two from the upper box if...
  12. Re: Okay to shake bees off frame with eggs?

I hope so. I've done it quit a bit. That's the best way for me to see if there's fresh eggs.

    Re: Advice for scaling up

I'm not sure as to building up for production of honey but I wouldn't do a walk away split in the fall. It seems to me that it would be to late in the year to get a good brood cycle before winter. ...

    Re: Backfilled swarm

Adding a frame of mixed brood with eggs if you have them would be a good idea. That way if they need a queen they could raise one. If it was me I'd put another empty box under them with a frame or...
  15. Re: how do you promote your farm stand when it off the beaten path

I thank that's a great idea. Maybe set something up so you could advertise free samples and put out a tester, some popsicle sticks and a waste basket. Do you have a stand located out front of where...
  16. Re: 7D nails for supers and hive bodies (Galvanized vs hot dipped, vs electro-galvani

    Here's my two cents.

If you've ever tried to pull apart a wood pallet then you know they don't give up easy. They are made with either ring shanked or spiral nails.

I agree with Brian on the...

Re: Reasons for hive not to requeen?

Maybe a dumb question but will the laying worker die just like a regular bee would if they sting?
  18. Re: how long can 1 day old eggs stay out of the hive

Me to! I was curious because from my understanding when you graft queen cells with fresh eggs people pull the frame out of the hive and take them to where their doing the graft. I think right?

    Re: Drone comb

I would do what WWW suggested. When I have empty drone comb that bad I pitch it. If its got some honey in it then I'll move it to the very farthest outside and let them back fill it.

    I also took...

So in terms of minute or hours how long would they be OK for at 80 degrees?

Re: Swarm cleans up dead out

I've heard the bees will clean up old comb but that's cool. Did you happen to look on the ground in front of the hive to see if there was a bunch of junk?

    Thanks for sharing.
