The frames I tried to melt were old brood flames, nearly black, but with lots of wax moth tunnels and silk. They hardly melted at all today under what should have been ideal weather, hot and sunny.

Has anyone tried melting frame damaged by wax moths? I have a solar wax melter that I put a few wax moth damaged frames in today and they don't seem to be melting and it over 90 degrees here with...
I too received my 5 queens from Chuck Norton last week, also updated to Tier 2. So far so good with 4 readily accepted in splits and the fifth needing a push in cage in the original hive. Hopefully...
How long do you typically wait after installing a queen with a push in cage before you check on her? I just installed one for the first time ever using a push in cage (thanks for the design tip from...
On May 20 I emailed Chuck again asking about the possibility of a shipment of my 5 queens this spring. I did not hear back so on May 21 I emailed Chuck to cancel my order as I had ordered 5 queens...
Thanks for the update Chris. I will check my last remaining hive tomorrow to assess how many potential splits there are and order queens then. I checked out the Velbert Williams web site and it...
I too am awaiting Russian queens from Chuck Norton. I ordered 5 last summer which were never delivered with the same reasons given to others in this thread. I was then told that I would get the...
I am not certain of the origin of the hot hive as I had several swarms last year and with the open mating who knows what the end product is. They started out as Italian though. Mite resistance...
I am thinking of requeening all 6 of my hives with the same strain of bee for better comparison and hopefully continuity if they supercede. I have NWC, an old SMRT survivor and Italian/swarm bees...
Hornets are relatives to honeybees just like ants. Hornets really seem to hurt much worse than a honeybee though. I was picking black raspberries today and got stung twice by what I think was a...
I thought of that but the ***** willow in our yard has not fully opened up yet. The flowers are only about half size with none of the yellow stalks protruding as when they are in full bloom. I am...
Pale white pollen has been brought back to my hives since this weekend, 3/1/2004. I can't figure out the plant source. Too early for the red maples and black willows at least the ones I have looked...
Does anyone else use double screens for splitting or re-queening? Do you face the hives separated with the double screens with their openings in the same direction or in opposite directions? ie One...
Sorry for this late post but I just found this board. Someone posted that their locust tree had long thorns on the trunk. That is a Honey locust (Gleditsia triacanthos), not a black locust. Oddly,...
