  1. Re: So I made a deposit on 2 nucs back in November

I would be patient. If the weather has been anything like Texas they are a month behind. Flow have been dead so far and I am feeding my nucs now when a normal year they all would be in singles. I...

    Re: black bees

I caught a swarm yesterday and the queen was that dark! She didn't look like a virgin queen which can be a little darker sometimes but I will know in a week when I open them up. Hopefully she is...

    Re: Hiving over 30 nucs?

    Thanks!!
I actually forgot to add that there will be an inner cover. The frames feeders have ladder and the inner cover will have a 1" hole so that a funnel with a tube can be inserted for easy...

    Hiving over 30 nucs?

I just wanted to get some opinions on my overall process. See if anyone would add or do anything different. I have hived nucs before but just wanted some input

    Re: Virgin Queen

Your timeline is about right 1-2 weeks. I wouldn't requeen unless you don't have a queen. If you have another hive then put a frame of eggs in there. If they make cells then you know your problem was...

    Re: Well I did it...

Do you have entrance reducers on? It may be robbing since your feeding 1:1. It may not be but with new hives it can happen sometimes and you want it to stop asap

    Re: Well I did it...

If they started building they are less likely to abscond but it is still possible. I think you are doing everything right. The bees may have gotten so active because rain is coming. Remember if you...

Two swarms on 4-1-15 and 4-2-15. One left before I got there and the other was to high in the tree. Helped the feral bee population this week and not mine 😞. San Antonio near 78250.

    Re: 1st inspections

Look to make sure she is laying. See how to comb look... Storing pollen, nectar, and where she is laying. Other than that just feed them to get them going and close them ip

    Re: First sting ever

Inside of the nostrile??? Wow. Can't say that would feel great. I have been stung more times than I can count but never inside the nostrile. 3 consecutive times in the ear was a doozy for sure.

Look for a queen. It may be a good problem but I would start there. I don't know your area but it seems as though feb would be a little early to do what you did. Just a thought

Re: Spotty brood pattern VS hatched cells?

True. I was assuming that they had a brood break up in Canada. Generalizing early in the year you are more likely to see a better pattern from the inside out. Once she gets laying it gets a little...

Re: Spotty brood pattern VS hatched cells?

The queen will usually lay in a spiral pattern from the middle out. Follow that pattern and you will see if something is out of order

    Re: Broodless hive

You say it isn't reaching larval stage? What is your reasoning to thing that?
What you may have is a new laying virgin queen. All it takes is one of those queens to have hatched and she is laying....

Re: Quick ?, feeding 1:1 for comb building

Should be able to build with the nectar coming in. Mine are going "hog wild"... See what I did there😄. I have a box every 10 days being drawn with the nectar coming in. Worry more about adding boxes...

Foulbrood may be the one of the most popular bee disease but I wouldn't say that it would be your first reaction on why the bees are not there. Don't get me wrong... I would not feed my bees that...
