Hi WLC ...and I wasn't disagreeing with you either ...and i like the discussion on probiotics. I was just trying to say that the sugar syrup that we feed them, when we must feed, has to be something...
I liked Mr. Oliver's article - and I think if covered pollen well. I DO think that we still overlook the importance of nectar in bee nutrition and seem to take a pass at it's importance so that we...
I appreciate the reply ...of course I'm paranoid about them swarming on me. It's like my thing to be worried about until this is resolved and I find something else to worry about -
OK, I'm at least 75% brood and stores ..but I'm in that 2.5 week mark where my bees will be fewer and fewer until shortly after the 3 week mark.
Do I add the second brood box now? Or wait till...
Agree! ...I had that problem this year ...luckily it was an easy fix!

Thank you! - I appreciate the response. I'll make sure I do that
Thank you for replying Aerindel. I thought that might be the case. The gap was where the queen cage was. Before I removed the queen cage, they had built the beginning of that extra comb. I should...
They are building this comb in front of the comb they've drawn out on wax foundation on the same frame. Should I be removing this pronto!? This would be in the bottom brood box of a newly installed...
ABC-XYZ says to keep them somewhere between 50-60 degrees.
I'm really curious about adding the 2nd medium 8 frame super ...I'll be coming up on my 2nd week as well. And mine are doing just about as well as yours ...as of the first week they were working on...
Ok, golden! I'll ask them to be more frugal with their wax :D thank you!
I would keep looking for a beekeeper that would remove them for you you. Contact the head of a local beekeepers association:
http://www.tvbees.org/ (also see their associations section)...
It's not often but every once in a while I see a few bees flying out of the hive with what looks like a flake of wax in their mouth.
Is this wax? Is this normal? What are they doing? And why?
...
Golden! I'm going to have to make one of those!
I know it's not Randy Oliver but thought this was a good post from Dan Cummings of Project Apis m. - http://projectapism.org/content/view/93/49/
Thank you for the pictures - it was fun "combing" through them!
Definitely feeding ...and just went out to watch for a few minutes. Bees are bringing in pollen ...don't know about nectar ..some bees are coming back without pollen ...nectar? propolis (wasn't...
Ah! Gotcha ...thank you for the explanation. I'll try that out!
I'm new so I'm just making sure ...wouldn't that break up the brood? I always thought that was a BIG no-no. Or am I misunderstanding?
Thank you for the feedback Mr.Beeman!
Last week I installed 2 - 3# packages each into 1 - 8 frame medium box with foundation. I performed my first inspection today removing the queen cage. The queen had bee released and I was able to see...
Incredible!
That bit would have been important. Sorry. Foundation.
