Re: EFB Can they be saved?

Is it the white twisted larvae (like a copperhead snake ready to strike) that make you think that this is EFB? That is what I see in your picture. Is this what you are referring to?

    super-sized smoker

Would you buy the larger 4 by 10? I bought a replacement valve for my old smoker. Unfortunately, I now see I have a tear in the bellows. I don't know if the tear is from old age (smoker is at least...
  5. Re: I am going to need so much advice. Please brace yourselves.

Also, once the smoker is going put a little green grass on top of the fuel to cool the smoke. Test the the temperature of the smoke-not too hot.
  6. Re: I am going to need so much advice. Please brace yourselves.

A propane torch to light the smoker works great. Also you can use the propane torch to clean the inside of the smoker.

Re: Any input on caring for Bee Tree seedlings

What about seaweed? Some people use seaweed in their vegetable gardens. I think it is too cold in zone 5 for bee bee trees. My bee bee trees died. Maybe a peat pot would have made the difference. I...

Re: a field of poision ivy and a beehive

How do you manage? Do you worry about getting poison ivy on the outside of the honey supers-especially when you pull the honey supers?

Re: securing a publicly accessible hive

I would post the ten commandments by the hives. I would label supers, bottom boards and hive covers with my name and phone number.

Are you near any water? Will you have male and female bathrooms with showers? It sounds nice. I always think swarm control is the hardest part of beekeeping.

    Re: Dead Queen?

I understand that your hive is tilted forward, but when you speak of bottom board drainage are you speaking of some sort of drainage grate on the bottom board?

Re: Ok..Tell me what you think.....

Your yard and apiary are very nice. What about the black compost bin; will that black compost bin attract hornets? Hornets are not good neighbors - at least not for bees.
