  1. Re: any N.Y. beeks heard of a plan to start charging for bee registration

There was talk about registration a couple years ago. I haven't heard anything recently. I was not aware that there was a "modest" inspection program provided by the state.

So, here's a new observation. The escape worked well with one super but when I installed under 2 and 3 supers, not so good. Installed yesterday and pulled today. Tremendous traffic jam resulted in...

    Re: feeding bees "old" sugar

Use it up. I can't imagine rain water would be any worse than what comes out of the tap . But if left too long, it will grow mold.

    Re: Oxalic Acid treatment.

I did Oxalic acid treatment a couple years ago. This was in the drip method rather than the vaporized method. Colony survived so maybe it worked

Since I've been using 24 hr. Formic acid...

    Re: Triangle Escape Board

I am fortunate that shb is not a problem here. We have a lot of clay/hardpan below the grass. It's my understanding that shb does not thrive in that environment.

Just pulled a super from an...

    Re: Triangle Escape Board

I built one a couple years ago. Just built 3 more. They do work. In theory only a couple hours should be long enough on a warm day (so the bees are moving about). I left one on too long a couple...

I had heard of Milk Paint years ago but have never made/used it. Interesting to note that I grew up on a small dairy farm! We fed "fresh" milk to pigs if we were raising a couple. (for those who...

Actual physical size of the yard will be what you feel comfortable maintaining. That is, spacing around hives for working each one. So, deciding how many hives and that comfort zone will set the size...

    Re: Why I keep bees...

I keep bees because I'm interested in learning new things. I'm guessing I'll never learn all there is to bees.

Producing honey is a byproduct right now. I expect to retire in a few years, so...

When only wearing a veil I've had the problem of my t shirt riding up when squatting  Now that can be disconcerting.

    Re: 40" Spatula

I made a spatula out of a piece of plexiglass. About 3 x 5 and sharpened along the short side. Attached to about 3' or so of 1/2" pvc pipe. The pipe was slotted to accept about an inch of the plexi...
