    Re: I Need Some Help

Go for it. If it is honeybees and needing a cutout you can do it. It may be that they are from a tree hive, which opens up a whole new can of worms..... trap out. Set them up in their own hive (if...

    Re: mowing around hive

I mow right up to the hives with my garden tractor with the exhaust away from the hives. Most times with just shorts on. They get used to it after a few times. ALTHOUGH, later in the season (about...
  7. Re: Buy proven survivor stock or continue to develop my own

Sounds like you already have survivor stock. Start grafting next spring.
  8. Re: Help sick bees what could be causing this and how should I treat the hive

Drones getting the boot. DWV perhaps... what's your mite load?

    Re: Black bees

Russian strain perhaps.... or Mutts. I had a cutout two years ago, all black bees. They absconded within a week. Why? I still don't know, oh well. Anywho, I spotted some black bees trying to rob my...

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.
  12. Re: Shriveled Wings & Dying Bees - Will the Hive Make it!

All you can do is treat and hope for the best. If anything, it is a good learning experience.

Those girls sure can pack a punch! lol
Benedryl right away after the sting (after you remove the stinger correctly) will help a great deal.

Re: last hive cut out of the year for me

Real nice brood pattern. Keep us in the loop on how these bees (hopefully) continue to survive.

    Re: first cut out

You have a doomed hive if there is no queen this time of year. It will take about two weeks to attach the combs to the bars.
    Good luck with the bees.

It is one of the best things about beekeeping IMO.

    Re: mineral oil

I have been using the FGMO and a fogger for three years now. It keeps the mites in check to levels that are acceptable. My bees are healthy and prosperous. Bees don't seem to mind the fogging.
    I...

  19. Re: Getting real tired of melting down capping on the stove..other options??

Unfortunately, there is no simple, easy way to melt wax. It's time consuming and a bit messy. It is what it is.
I extract in July and have plenty of time to use my solar wax melter. Some days I...

    Re: Super Hot Hive

Has #3 been robbed lately? Maybe have pests (SHB or Varroa) driving them nuts? Is the hive queenless? Any signs of skunks messing with the hive? Stores low?
May not be a queen issue.
  23. Re: When to reduce entrances for winter prep?

I run mine 4" wide all year. I will put the mouse guards on in about a month.

    Re: Late August swarm

I have heard of two queen hives before, this may be a first for me. I havent seen a hive perform like this in a few years.
  25. Re: There has to be a better way (moving hives)

Move them at night with one of these and two people. At least it works well for me.
