Moving bees in cold weather will not hurt them unless you drop them. Infact the cold will help because they are clustered tight and will not fly unless you bang them around so you don't need to worry...
I was born to it, I am a third generation Commercial. Pap gave me my first hive at age 7 had bees since that's 32 years with bees.
@Jim I totally agree with you about how far they go on a productive flow and the limiting factor of capacity that can be carried and energy consumed gathering it.
Not trying to say they would make anything extra if they go that far for forage but they will go that far. But as to how I know they will fly that far. I have yards that are that far apart as the bee...
We had 2 days of high 40's low 50's went out the first day to wrap up the last hives and check the late nucs to see if they needed feed. There was a few I was worried about. We saved back 20 or so...
Answer:First bees will fly a lot farther than 2 miles we have done some tests and have found that they will go 6 or 7 miles with out any problems.

@Ralph: We keep 400 t0 500 to a yard in season when not feeding and even more if we are going to feed heavy out of barrels. Not all areas can do that but it is not and issue, it will force them to go...
I would say EastSideBuzz hit the nail on the head. I do try to limit the phone time and use email but there are times you need to talk to someone or go to their site to figure out the issue. The...
Cordovan is a color trait any type of bee can be selected to have it. But I do see a difference in wintering from Cordovan to none Cordovan they tend to not do as well in the colder areas. But they...
Why not use a pallet the you can just put your hives on bottom board and all. We do this with 6ways but it would work with 4ways.
Of the 9 trucks we run only 3 fall into that area. Plus if you check most states only alow you 150 mile for you farm for a farm tag to be valid. After that all reg apply. I will keep my class A and...
The Mann Lake mesh suit is not as good quality and the zippers don't close right. I will pay the extra money every time but I work and haul bees for a living.
@ Kingfisher Track to wheeled is a huge difference. We have both and you only want a track unit if you are getting into sand or mud other than that it is a ruff ride and the bees hate it.
Don't forget to shave all facial hair. Those I have talked to that have done it say if you don't they will pull at it and get stuck then sting. And that would not be good with 3# of bees on your face.
I will have Carni Hybrids next spring that do very nice in our area with out treatment. Hi Sam how is Pap's old equipment holding up for you? Last I heard Warren is getting ut of it for health...
Sounds like nonsence to me. Unrefined honey is usually called Raw Honey in all my years I have never heard of anyone calling it Virgin Honey even out of new comb, though you could market honey out of...
I move bees all the time for a living. You always set it back together as soon as it happens if you can. I find if you pick it up fast it is not to bad but if you wait you will get stung up. And if...
I agree with sqkcrk. I also went to one in Orlanda years ago. It is a great way to network with others in the industy and hear of the latest inovations. I plan to go to this one if I am in the state...
If you can you are better off moving them if near were there will be spray. confining a hive that way is never good I have learned this the hard way a few times.
I have their jacket and love it, but have to say it doesn't hold up like a B.J. Sherriff, I have had my Ultra for 2 seasons and will get one more out of it but got 7 years out of my last Sherriff...
What changes have they made? For the last 20 years I just show my permit and they wave me by, sometimes they will copy it and my CDL. ANd the Fireants will all wait to bite you all at one time....
Mellons are well after Apples you should still get 2 rentals. We do apples then go to blueberries then come back down for vine crops. $65 a hive for you being local to the grower is a high end of fair...
Never heard of SHB contaminating honey, But not shure about it since if I have a slime out I hose it out and let the bees rob it. But as long as the honey you extracted was not slimed and you only...
