    Re: Pond lily honey?

They do work water hyacinth, which is the only good thing I know about it.

With the name water lily, it depends on the species. Are you talking about lotus or white water lily. The lotus...

    Re: NUCs value

Harley - That is a price that I had seen for 8 frame medium, plus some 5 frame mediums for $125. The price for 5 frame deeps from some places is crazy. But for $40.00 they can have a replacement...

    NUCs value

I am going to try to sell about a dozen 5 frame medium nucs. All from my backyard apiary from splits. These are queens from feral mutts collected within the 25 mile radius of my place.

    Was...
  6. Re: Built up swarm being agressive. Should I requeen?

I got one hive that is more defensive than the rest. Not bad if weather is good, if you use lots of regular smoke, if the flow is on and I am not doing complete inspection. On a complete...
  7. Re: RPM Requirements for a Honey Extractor

Hmmm, well do tangential extractors break up more comb. Especially if you are using foundationless. ??

  10. Re: RPM Requirements for a Honey Extractor

Curious question from a smash and strainer that is drooling over the idea of an extractor.

Can you get most the honey out the comb with less than this optimum speed of a similar sized extractor...
  11. Re: Planning my first hive cutout monday

If the comb is really fresh, trying to save it is really hard, it will smash and crush easily.

Keep that smoker going if you can. But once you really bust into the hive and start tearing it...

Re: Queen with mulitple eggs, problem?

Like Harley's line of thought. I have seen that twice myself since I started. Was all worried that splits had instant layer workers cause multiple eggs in a cell. But most cells were single eggs. ...

Re: Frames all Syrup no Eggs!!

gumbi - This is coming from a newbie, so take it for what it is. Does the end of the Queen cell look ragged like it was once capped and slightly elongated or is it just a short bowl with smooth...

    Hive beetles

Went through 12 nucs and 3 hives. Saw 1 hive beetle. Then opened a 5x5 nuc that just superceded the queen. They are really defensive and have to keep puffing with smoke. Going to see what the new...

    Re: Gulf Coast flow

Never2Late - Just across the river from you and yep the tallow flowers are dropping and seemed like stuff was slowing. But with the steady rain I didn't know if I was just misjudging things.

    Wish...

Re: How long to forget hive location

I have it by good authority that if you hold them at the new location for 42 days, when moved back to the old site, there are very few bees that reorient to the old hive. :lpf: :lookout:

    Sorry...

    Re: Hive beetle problem

My apiary is very flat and so we have had an inch of water across much of the area for several days at a time multiple times this year due to all the rain. I was thinking this was really knocking...
  23. Re: Funnel size on Trap Out Help Needed.

That might be the ticket because I am using PCV pipe as my connector tube between the hive body and the wall.

    Thanks everyone.

PS. - Not many bees using the hive body with one frame of...
  24. Re: Few questions about excersising bees from my wall

If you can cover the opening, it fogs the inside of a cavity really well. Just takes 5 to 15 minutes for kill effect. And the first minute they are really ticked off.
  25. Funnel size on Trap Out Help Needed.

Doing a trap out on a house wall. We will go after the comb once we get almost all the bees out of the wall (or that is the plan). Owners don't want the house full of bees and don't want to chance...
