Agree with most things stated about BeeMax Hives. I run about 25 of them and about the same number of wood. I did notice that the Beemax seemed to be about 2 weeks ahead of the wood during spring...
The downside to this method is it takes the better part of 30 days to get another queen laying. Can you do without 30 days worth of bees in the best part of the flow or anytime for that matter. I...
IMHO maybe a little strong. I use 2 frames brood and the BEES from one other brood frame. I find this strong enough to ward off SHB and it saves a frame of brood for the next nuc.
Steven G is dead on. Since wax moths tend to lay in the cell, the larvae eat the comb under the surface before they spin their cocoon. If you can look "into" the comb, maybe hold up to a strong...
Mowing has never presented much of a problem. However, if you run a gas powered string trimmer....I would put on the armour. I have tried this several times and always the same results. Over 100...
NasalSponge, you talkin Wilted Lettuce with bacon drippings? Man, haven't remembered that in a long time. Really good and something Hambone could get behind.
Derek, it's not the 3.2, it's the white lightnin'. Still plenty of it around.
Only thing in my part of the world is Dandelion.....been blooming about 2 weeks. Still see a little mustard but nothing else. Noticing the Elm buds starting to swell. A little warm spell in Jan...
Bees and related beekeeping equipment are not taxable in Texas. Don't need a number, just not taxable. There are a couple of exceptions, beeswax is one.
Welcome Steve and DroneDawg! Lots of knowledge on this board...use it.
DroneDawg, send me a PM. I am in the College Mound area. Would like to know what area your in.
Michael, I think your onto something. There are lots of "how to" beekeeping books. How about a "how not to" book......something like "Stupid Ideas in Beekeeping".
Bought a Glenn VSH back in May. Introduced into a strong split and she started laying right away. Is still a great producer and the hive is strong. Hoping to get one more year (or at least the...
Derek, Good Job:). Looks like a nice bunch of bees. The way our weather has been, I would be prepared to add a couple of frames of honey from another hive.....that would help a lot. I think our...
Agree with Cow Pollinator. However, I don' know exactly where you are located, but in North Texas (at least here in Terrell) drones are being kicked out wholesale and I would say time is over for...
I have a conflict on Sat but plan on being there on Friday. Sure wish somebody would post an agenda.
This is just a wild hair but, I was thinking of enclosing the overwinterer supers in a plastic bag (can get some that I think 8 or 10 supers would fit in) and injecting a Carbon Dioxide atmosphere. ...
When glucose gets cold (below about 50) you can actually cut it with a knife.
Swabby,
Most candy companies use GLUCOSE. This is what they call corn syrup. HFCS is not the same thing and burns too quickly for use in most candy formulas. If I remember correctly, HFCS 55 is...
Dzeller, I think you experiencing "fall bee syndrom". Bees that have been fairly gentle all year can be pretty cranky this time of year. They know time is drawing short and they have lots of work...
Freeze all the frames for at least 24 hrs. SHB and wax moth will make short work of any frames that had brood in them.
Golden Rod or Goat Weed.
Making some this year from the Mesquite summer flow. Will let you know.
Yes Derek, I have you a bottle:thumbsup:.
Derek,
Wife uses orange oil as a drench for the mounds. All it seems to do it give them a bath and make them smell good. I then sneak out an put Orthene on the mound. End of problem. I also...
Probably your honey is not warm enough. From the output gate of my extractor it goes into a 600 nested into a 400. From there into the 200. Although the 200 is a little slower, it does keep up...
