  1. Re: what do southern Beeks wear for protection?

I have a ventilated suit, but most of the time I wear an old button down white shirt and a veil. Especially for quick trips in the hive.

Re: How Much OAV With Honey Supers On?

I have watched it in an observation hive. The bees fan it everywhere inside the hive. Use the appropriate amount and they will take care of the rest.

    Re: couldnt find the queen

If I see eggs and larvae I don't look any further, unless there is a reason I need to find her. In fact, most of the time the lid goes right back on. :)

    Mated queen question

"Once the queen has mated her two ovaries swell with 150-180 egg producing ovarioles (Winston 1991)."

How long does this take after the queen has mated? Is it immediate or take a day or two? ...

Re: Just bought a new extractor...well maybe

I bought a 1400p back in May and it took about 3-4 weeks then. Rossman's had one, but you do get a discount if you deal direct with Maxant and you are a beesource member. That, combined with picking...

    Re: $3000 per hive

I wish mine traveled six miles to collect nectar. They probably would need a lake house to overnight in.

    Re: capping spinner

So how does that work? The cappings go in the bag and you have more than one bag so it is balanced?

    Re: Dadant vs. Maxant extractor

Call Maxant. Ask for Kristel (sp?). Tell her you are a member on this forum.

Mine came back. Same scenario. Yes, they fly.

+1. Built like a tank and easy to operate. I like mine.

Re: Swarm today, now I'm more confused

Sorry to hear you had that reaction. Seems like some stings are worse than others. Personally, the benedryl would have knocked me out. Glad you got them in a box.

Can you reach them and shake them into the trap? If you can you can help them make the decision.

    Re: Soybean Pollination

Depends on what crop you are following, weather, equipment need, money, etc.

I am confused on the organic issue. If it has rained on it or air has touched it, I don't see it as organic. They...
  17. Re: The future of varroa control? Changing Varroa DNA?

Uh oh. Might end up with something worse than the varroa. The unknown variable can be a destructive event.

Re: Paaradise for a swarm trap?

Guys in the beeclub are experimenting this year with location on a pretty big scale. They say anything with a treeline. Fields, powerlines, right of ways, cutdowns, etc. will draw swarms.

    My two...
