    Re: swarm trap placement

That has been my experience also. I have caught several swarms from a building for a number of years and the trap is just a few feet away and just at about the same level as the place they come out...

    Re: swarm trap placement

Some of my best bees come off wild hives and they give up 2 or 3 swarms a year into traps. Just use some old comb and a "little lemon grass oil" and check the traps often. Good luck
  5. Re: Robbing or just a very exceptionally busy hive for low 60/hish 40 degree weather

In my experience bees that are robbing will be trying to get in the top and running up and down all seams in the hive. When you put on robber screens the bees that belong in the hive are a little...

Micheal I wanted to ask you if you leave the three high brood factories at three or reduce them to two for the winter. Ron

Re: Overwintering Nuc side by side

Yeah that's what I do so you end up with a full width of the nuc between the entrances. I had mine all facing the same way and when the queens go out to mate they got confused and I ended up with...

Re: Overwintering Nuc side by side

You might want to consider turning every other one in the opposite direction to give a little more separation between the entrances. That helped on mine.

    Re: Queen, Nicot Syistem

I agree with Astrobee in fact the hive you put the brood in may already have multiple cells in it and you may be able to cut some cells off it for the queenless ones.

    Re: Queen, Nicot Syistem

Put the nicot in a hive that has a queen for a day or two with the excluder off the nicot so the bees can polish the cells. Then confine the queen and keep check on when she lays in the cells. Three...

Re: Well that was quick-Lost queen

I wouldn't panic just yet. First the queen don't start laying as soon as she gets out of the cage and when she does start to lay it might be just a few. And with that many frames and eggs being very...

    Re: Double Nuc Question

Do you mean a 10 frame box on top of the 2nd level of the double nuc. I use these double nucs and would like to better understand how to do this. Thanks.

    Re: Three dead hives...

If you have a problem with the thought of treating bees then think of it as killing mites. If you have something in your hives that is going to kill the bees and do nothing that is mistreating bees...

    Re: Mating nuc question

Do like Michael Palmer says and use 5 frame nucs. Those small boxes are just a mess. The only thing they are any good for are queen banks and not real good for that. Hive beetles like them and other...

    Re: Winter's Here to Stay

On the far side it would be 3/4 inch. I see what you mean that they would build comb in that area. If I put excluder on the other side that would prevent that. The reason I did it that way is I...
