  1. Re: Too late for bees to draw out foundation (August) ?

If you feed them heavily and the hives are strong I have had bees do it later in the season than this. Put the combs that you need drawn spaced every other frame in the bottom where the queen is and...

Re: What a day I am Having.

Wow, I thought my day was rough because I cracked a honey gate and had a leaky pipe. I literally said to myself at least I didn't get hurt.
I hope that your recovery turns out to be 100 percent....

    Re: Neighbors destroying colonies

I hope that this works out okay. My first instinct would be talking with my neighbors and trying to see why they would spray my bees and then go from there. If that wasn't an option involving the...
  5. Re: Speaking of bee attacks...what could you do?

If I don't have a veil I put my hands over my face. Getting stung around the eyes or face in general is terrible. Bees can fly faster than you can run but getting away from the source of the bees is...

    Re: Unusual behavior?

I thought that they were marking their turf.

    Re: Unusual behavior?

I could be wrong but I think they do it to mark the hive with their scent and I notice that they are usually filling the gaps with propolis when they do that as well.

    Re: Are these swarm cells?

I only see capped drone cells and worker cells. I think you are okay. The queen cells will look more exaggerated and stick out like the tip of your pinky sticking out.

I have thanked the members of Beesource in general several times but on this thread I will thank you specifically in a general sense Mark. I remember when I joined this forum your posts had me hooked...

    Re: Salt Blocks for Bee's?

I was chain sawing wood this weekend and bees kept coming to the fresh cut logs and gathering something from that. I guess the moisture or sap. It was notable how that interested them. I forgot about...

Re: What is chewing on my hive?

I thought about this today at work :). I am intrigued by the mystery:) When the bees get stronger whatever it is may be in for a surprise.

    Re: suprise for my fiancee

This is an exciting read. I think if the two of you get suits and go into it together on some level that could be exciting for the both of you. Sometimes it is nice to work on the bees alone but it...
  17. Re: Any problem with soybean oil in beetle trap

I don't think it will matter because the bees won't get to it.
  18. Re: Electric Heat Gun for "burning" out used hives?

This is me taking that Harbor Freight torch to a Queen Excluder :) I got a bunch of used stuff when I started. Bee careful with that torch

I have taken green grass and twisted it and folded it and stuffed it in the end of the smoker and that smothered it. I used a clump of wax also and stuffed that in the end. I lost my corks. I need...

Re: 2 new packages - not queened right?

Re: 2 new packages - not queened right?

Oh, I didn't read it correctly. There is a queen in hive one still. Great point jbraun! Yes if you cage that queen and re introduce her to the queenless hive that would be a solution. The hive with...

Re: 2 new packages - not queened right?

If you have wax frames you could cut one of the queen cells off of the frame that has several of them and attach it into the queenless hive very carefully. That queen cell should re queen the...
  25. Re: Don't ever get to big for your britches or count your chickens before they hatch

Lauri, what you showed in your picture is what I was trying to convey. I was told to put a queen excluder at the bottom of the empty box then shake some bees from frames into it. Incase there is a...
