    Re: Hive lifter

I posted it was less than a trillion dollars. How close can I get to the price range before it get moderated? It's less than a billion too.

    Re: Hive lifter

So for the 3rd time the 'moderator' has removed my post because it contained an approximate price. Good lord. The one Barry removed last night had approximate prices on unitstrut which could vary...

    Re: Hive lifter

This BeeSource is really frustrating to post on sometimes.

The Aipilift is clearly built using unistrut also know as cantruss. Very common and sold in every electrical wholesaler in north...
  5. Re: McCormick, alias Billy Bee introduces its new Natural Farms honey, a blend of Chi

I went through the grocery store and could find no other instance of Canada #1 used in this manner. Could you give me a real world example Jean Marc? I checked the orange juice as you suggested and...
  6. Re: McCormick, alias Billy Bee introduces its new Natural Farms honey, a blend of Chi

It is incredibly misleading. I know of no other product with such misleading labelling attached to it. You have to really look for the fine print unless it is BeeMaid or the Walmart econo brand...

    Re: Thermal Image Gun

I ran a little higher last year ~7C but this year I am running 10KW of heaters in the building so I am trying to be cheap and run right at 5C. My carpenter did not do a proper job on the acoustical...

    Re: Thermal Image Gun

So I guess we are to assume that it didn't go well as there was no bragging?
I am a little worried as some of mine have really small clusters. (Last frost was June 5th and first frost was August...

    Re: Thermal Image Gun

I don't know if anyone has tried it. I know some have had to feed sucrose indoors including myself. The waste does build up in their system without cleansing flights. As soon as they cleanse a...

    Re: Thermal Image Gun

Wow that would not leave much cushion at all. They must have huge air movers when they get above 10. It could easily lead to a parabolic increase in temperature. Brooding would also increase as...

    Re: Thermal Image Gun

Dumb question after seeing your pictures. What temperature was your room at? Picture #2 gives the impression that the room is ~2 degrees.

    Re: Thermal Image Gun

Your gun is much nicer than mine. I have a 3 year old FLUKE T19 and I can't even get that nice of an image. I came to the same conclusion on the hive assessment, if you could get a picture of all...

    Re: Thermal Image Gun

    Ian,
I have one of those guns for work. It is going to be tough to assess as the clusters could be in different positions in each hive. If you do figure it out I would love to see the images.

    Re: My Indoor Wintering Setup

I think some of the readers of this forum misunderstand the purpose of indoor wintering. The purpose is to regulate the metabolism of the bees. This ensures that the bees have enough stores to...

    Re: My Indoor Wintering Setup

I think you are on the right track. I would find the light source (crack) and cover it up. It isn't as much of a problem now as it will be n spring when the temperature jumps and they really really...

    Re: wintering bees inside

Well everything you wrote in your initial post is mostly correct. The only two things that are slightly incorrect are:
The queen may not shut down indoors if the temperature is maintained. The...

Sorry a close up you can kind of see the capped brood under the bees. This was February of this year and the bees had been indoors since end of October.

    Re: wintering bees inside

The queen continues to lay in most instances from my experience. Just at a much reduced rate unless she is out of pollen. 14594
  19. Re: Using entrance reducers when indoor wintering

sjj do you winter bees indoors or have any experience doing so?
  20. Re: Using entrance reducers when indoor wintering

I don't have a whole lot of trouble with dead bees accumulating Allen. If the hive is really weak and failing I might get a buildup but not otherwise. I didn't even have to clean the bottom boards...
  21. Re: Using entrance reducers when indoor wintering

I could sample. I even won a free full spectrum analysis at the field day 2 years ago. I might still be allowed to use it. It's only an hours drive from home. Now that I finally have a bit of...
  22. Re: Using entrance reducers when indoor wintering

Dropped 1/2 my reducers off tonight. I did notice last year that the hive that had a reducer on all winter consumed ~5lbs less than the others. The hive however seemed stunted. 14475 not sure if...
  23. Re: Using entrance reducers when indoor wintering

Red light is great, just don't put it on a switch. I had a 'helper' leave the light on last year and I confess I did it too the year before. Now it is on a spring wound timer.
  24. Re: Using entrance reducers when indoor wintering

I expected that answer. I have removed the reducer and will take a follow up picture in 48 hours.
  25. Re: Using entrance reducers when indoor wintering

To further back up my claim, I have other beekeepers wintering in my new building because it is too big for just mine. They do not have entrance reducers and the results are similar to my "No...
