    I think you are wright on, I have noticed this in queenless hives. The drones you see are not brothers but from other hives, but just my guess.

    The swarm is probbably from the tree, you allready have what you want with out all the work of a trap out.

    Besides sounds like the owner likes the bees in the tree.

    Is there comb built on the outside of the house?

    If so, you would be able to hive them.

    you will have to tie the comb into your frams.

    I reduce my entrence to 4" for summer smaller for winter.

    Helpes to retain heat. I am in Michigan.

    White wax is the cutoff.

    sounds like you are a week and a half ahead of mid Michigan.

    I got my first swarm, a week ago today.

    The start of main flow and and white wax are the same thing.

    Queens are sent after they are mated, I could be wrong.
    I live about a 50 miles north of you and have not seen a drone.

    From the video you have the swarm trap upside down, small hole on top, large hole in the bottom.

    If I was looking at it, for a home for me. I would say it neads a new roof....

    Your a first year beekeeper, learn all you can by looking in on them.
    If they are queen right great, if not you know what it lookes like, look for a queen cell that may or may not be there.

    I had this happen to me last year.
    Hive falled at superseding.
    Found a dead queen in the cell.

    The supers of honey left on over the winter will be half cristalised.
    I would harvest one medium from each hive this fall.
    I am in MI and that would be good here, maybe not in VT.

    Yes, I have read that drumming will work on a new swarm, you will nead to place the nuck or box above them and has to be closed on top .

    Ok if your bees are on small cell or foundationless you will be ok.

    my bees would die in the second winter with out small cell.

    My bees are know in there 5 th year no treatments no feeding....

    Each time I have put in a frame of brood, they uncap most of it an remove the brood. hey are not store honey on the location where the brood has been. They just pull out the brood and throw it out...
