    Re: Hive dimension changes

That metric thing didn't fly so well here a few years back...I don't expect any changes any time soon.
  2. Re: Shop tools for wood working & Building Tips/Tricks

Not including any salvaged (free) lumber, I am building boxes-deeps and mediums-for an average $7.50 each...with free labor. Frames (without foundation) under a quarter each. I find the tablesaw to...

Re: Newbie question about building frames

Cut them on a router table...you can stack them and cut two at a time...make a 1 3/8 wide "push block" milled down to 3/4 wide to fit in the bottom slot. Works great. Michiganbees.org has a real...

Re: Thinking of making my own hives

Stacked dado for sure, make sure your saw will accommodate the stack...frames are easy with a router table and dado blade. Once you set up, cut lots of extras to assemble later.
  5. Re: 3/8" vs. 1/4" Staples for Frame Assembly

Get the compressor...narrow crown staplers don't require big compressors.

Re: Box joint jig plans? Need to make a jig..

Take your time making the jig, you will find it very accurate (make sure you use a hard wood for the pin)

    Re: homemade frames...

Rather than reinventing the wheel, focus on producing a piece as close to accepted standards. If you lack the tools to achieve that goal, focus on acquiring those tools. It will pay in the long run.

    Re: cedar vs pine box

I like knots...knot holes, not so much. A can of bondo can make holes tolerable as well. Twice the price no good, no good.

Re: First Ever Swarm Trap Success

CessnaGirl-are your traps in the same locations this year? Are they near water this year?

    Coon, for sure...google coon cuffs.

Re: Bending aluminum for telescoping covers?

I've had good success bending over the edge of my cast iron tablesaw top...it took some temporary disassembly for the nuc tops, but for the most part, not bad. Using a rubber mallet.

Re: Table saws / dado blades

Buy more saw than you think you need. You can thank me later.
  17. Re: What are the dimensions of Rite-cell foundation

I'm guessing it depends on your blade. I have no problem with 1 pass on my saw. Drops in easily.

    Re: Table Saw

At $235.00 the grizzly fence seems a bit pricey, but that's the one on my grizzly saw and I'm thrilled with how it performs. (By the way, that price doesn't include the rails)

    Re: Feeding for Winter Buildup

I believe the 1:1 ratio is by weight, not volume. 1 pint of water is 1 pound.

    Nuc or split?

Another thread got me a little more confused, could someone describe the difference between a "split" in a 4 or 5 frame box and a nucleus colony? Can this be distinguished just by appearance?
