    I use burlap for the pad. Then used 4 mil black visqueen stretched over the rim. If you are not careful it will run the bees out in the grass.

    I have reading about making elderberry wine they all say 6 cups sugar or what ever the recipe calls for . Could i just sub. the same amount of honey.

    It gets very hot here also . I have never had any comb to collapse. I don't have but about 40 hives so it just a hobby. I don't think he will have any problem in zone 6b.

    While it's true that full sun stresses the bees in summer. But near as much stress as shb.

    Be careful about cutting out queen cells . If you can't find the queen they may have already swarmed if you cut out the qc you could wind up with a queenles hive . You really need to find the queen...

    I'm in a climate that's much warmer than yours. I have all of mine in full sun. SHB love the shade.

    I use 5 frame deep nuc with a 5 frame hive body on top. One brood comb in each nuc stacked over each ohter. The rest is rite cell. Seems to be a good combination .

    I talked to Manus today. The guy told me the difference 65-c and 65-h was viscosity. The 65-h could be put on with a brush and the 65-c would be easier worked with a trowel .

    When i make my cutout with the hole saw i save the doughnut or the cut out of the saw and glue and staple it to a scrape block of wood about 3.5x3.5. Don't cost anything......
