Anyone ever used B.Weaver or R.Weaver?

Wanting to know if anyone has ever used the weaver bros. for package bees or nucs. If you have, what did you pay for them and how are the bees (honey production, aggressive or passive, good against...

    Re: Texas bee laws

I didn't know we had to be registered to catch swarms. Never stopped me before though :D . No one ever said anything to me, should I get registered or get a permit?

    Re: Weed Control

Rock salt on the ground will kill most plants, especially grass. It might even kill SHB that fall underneath the hive, I don't know, it's worth a try.

Re: My first cut-out, what to do?

Does it hurt the queen if she is sucked in a bee vac? I have made my own using http://kelleyhoneybees.com/2012/02/10/bee-vac-built-for-removal-this-weekend/ as a guide for a bee vac.

My first cut-out, what to do?

I have a friend with me on the fire department that said he had honey bees coming in and out on a wall in him shop building. He plans on tearing it down and wanted someone to get the bees. This means...

    Re: Is it SHB?

I have the sheet underneath the hive because it came with the sheet, didn't know better. So you're saying that if I just remove the plastic then the hive will be fine?

    Is it SHB?

When inspecting my hive today, I decided to take a look at the plastic board underneath the screened bottom board. I didn't see any mites (thank God) but i did see some larvae that wasn't bees. I...
  10. Re: Need to replace queen but can't find her

I have heard that if you put the replacement queen in a queen cage and slide it in the hive, the current queen will come to the cage and try to kill the new queen. Did I say queen too much?
    It...

Re: When should you pull honey supers?

    2) I pull the supers off when they finish capping the honey and it is ready for extracting, no exact date. I don't extract the fall honey so I leave the supers on all winter which allows them to eat...

    Re: Brood in Honey Super

I have always used a queen excluder until late fall. I know some people don't like them but if i didn't have it, I wouldn't get any honey. I would try it so you get only honey, remember that brood...
  14. Re: Greeting from NC Ohio...considering beekeeping

Beekeeping is a very rewarding hobby, but does require work. I am not an expert in it so I would recommend helping someone with their hives trying to learn about the bees. The odds are that you can...

    Re: Cheapest Supplier

I recommend comparing prices with all of the suppliers you see, each one of these suppliers are very reputable, it all comes down to what you think is best for you.

    Re: Cheapest Supplier

They have the cheapest prices i have seen. I compared them to Mann Lake, Brushy Mountain, Dadant, and many others and they still won overall. Dadant is the only one that can stay...
  18. Re: Is it possible for honeybees to live entirely indoors?, what are their needs if s

What if you had a top and bottom entrance. The top entrance allowed access outside while the bottom entrance faces inside the greenhouse. This would solve the inside/outside problem correct?
  19. Re: Is it possible for honeybees to live entirely indoors?, what are their needs if s

Bumble bees are much harder to take care of (at least what I have heard), I would continue to get more advice from beekeepers and don't give up on the idea.
  20. Re: Is it possible for honeybees to live entirely indoors?, what are their needs if s

You are in uncharted territory with this. The only way I could see this working is with not just planting food crops, but also trees fro pollen and nectar. Vegetables can't provide all the pollen you...

    Re: Raccons

Ok, I know all about raccoons as pests. I know that I do not have any more on my whole property. If you want to get rid of raccoons, take a 12 gauge and a spotlight or trap and kill them all until...

    Re: New with Questions

The answer depends on whether you want just 1 hive for pollination or if you want to become a beekeeper. If you can find a friend or member of your community to help, that would be the best option.

    Re: Honey price

I sell 1/2 pints for $10 because I can. Whenever you are the only beekeeper and everybody is wanting "organic" honey, you can control the market. And people in my area are more than happy to pay for...
  25. Re: Question for FL beekeeprs. Do bees in FL collect nectar all year?

With you being in about the same zone as me (east Texas), I would think that you would get honey all year round except for the winter just like me. I have pollen coming in all year round except in...
