bah... disregard... i found my answer.... noob bk doesn't know the difference between poop and wax cappings..... duhho...
curious about this too, as i have a hive that has been cut in half by what i presume is nosema and have two other hives with some visible signs of it on the entrance floor board...
yup nosema seems pretty apparent to me. what about the odd clustering? It doesn't make sense for them to be bearding this time of year and it only occurred since replacing the floorboard...
why would it swarm if the bottom broodbox is completely empty? They have plenty of room to expand in the hive....
have not fed my bees this year at all - they had a super full of honey going into the winter. Our flow is about 6 weeks away and i was going to feed them some sugar water over the next two weeks.
...
posted this in the disease section but haven't got any replies

1 yr bee keeper.... my 7 hives have now come out our winter season. i noticed ALOT of bee poop on the base board of what had been my strongest hive. Today, i switched out the floor board with a clean...
lol! that makes sense! Thanks to all responders!
Have had my bees for about one year now- just coming out of the winter season here in SW Arizona... i'm the first to admit that i'm a bad beekeeper and have more or less neglected my 7 hives lately....
thanks everyone!!! thats pretty much what i was thinking, but i definitely wanted some other opinions!
So... its late November now and i would characterize my winters as being fairly moderate compared to most of the country, but i'm looking for advice as to whether or not any steps should be taken for...
i think you're gonna want a queen excluder...
Clarification: i offset the top (second) brood box 3/4 inch back with QE and Supers EVEN on top of that second box... i also will crack the top lid if the nights aren't too cool (above 55f...
omg... i'd give my left nut for 10/13 days of rain... ;) ... i didn't even know that was possible....
YUP- i would say this is bearding at a somewhat MINOR level..... i'm in AZ- So a bit of a geo difference from VA, but it really sounds like bearding..... and, in my armature opinion, the term is in...
i go straight for the jugular... middle frame first. i do not brush away bees unless i am extracting from a super...
i'm guessing it is, in fact, wax...
best weather for bearding is AZ... The ladies love getting a sun tan- especially in the moonlight....
.... if average worker life span equals 42 days than, during that life, the queen can lay, on average, 85,000 bees.... how large of brood nest and pollen supplies are required?
if you do find her a hive, i suspect they will supersede her as soon as possible if she is damaged, but i would think she'd be able to lay eggs in the mean time...
don't robber bees sometimes feed the guards in order to trick them into allowing entrance?
if the queen cup is full, they are likely trying to replace the queen you have now... if they are going to swarm, you will see multiple queen cells.
i think you should be more of a queen bee, yourself, and not let your drone have as much say ;)
hmmm... the plot thickens... ok, so i can probably count on 2-3 more weeks of mesquite flow. After which, turning my 7 hives into 14 single deeps should be possible, however an eye must always be...
i had heard that a second/fall flow depends on a solid monsoon season? I def have plenty of creosote here- scared me the first time i saw bees returning with "orange stuff".... the dearth i refer to...
