Re: New beek wanting to help with cutouts

I would suggest contacting local law enforcement and fire departments and leave your name with them in case they get a call. That is usually the first person unknowing people call when they find a...
  2. Re: Bees clustering on landing / Wasp entering hive!

Generally, as stated above, a few wasps aren't a problem and the bees can repel them. If they become a problem you can make a simple wasp/yellow jacket trap to hang in your yard.

    Take a plastic 2...

Re: Will my bees winter in Minnesota

No. It's all in preparation for winter. You need to read and be ready now for winter. If you take the proper actions to insure your bees are ready for a cold long winter,
    you can get them through.

    Re: bees on hummingbird feeders

Go into your hives and check their stores of capped and uncapped nectar/honey. Depending on how many hive bodies you have on, you should at least have 3-4 frames full.

I'm north of you a ways and...

Re: Sturdy & Useful Hive Stand

I have been making single hive stands for the last couple of years, but I like your idea. I also like the fact that yours will also act as a frame holder on the end.

    Thanks for sharing it.

Re: semi hauling bees over turns near home

I would like to know what is the reason these trucks are crashing while carrying bees. I am sure there are more crashes carrying other cargo, but ones carrying bees get more
    media coverage.

  10. Re: Best smoker fuel I have ever found, what do you use?

I use pine needles started with some shredded newspaper. If I really pack it I can get an hour to hour and a half out of it. I have pine trees 40 feet from my garage, which provides a lifetime...

Re: Bees Behavior at Night (Swarming?)

Almost all of my hives do this to some extent almost every evening.

You can also take popsicle sticks, or something similar and put them under the inner cover to assist with ventilation.

    Re: Inheriting old hives

I would say it is worth saving depending on the number of bees and what they have going on.

    Re: Leaking top feeder

Depends on where it is leaking. Like stated above, it can be rewaxed. But if it's leaking in a corner or where wood joins, you can use food safe silicone sealer. Or a sealer made for aquariums.

    Re: Building Nuc Boxes.

Very nice looking joints on your nuc box. I am way too lazy to set my table saw up to cut the finger joints, and with the price of lumber here it is just as cheap to buy them pre-fabbed.
