Re: How cold is too cold to install a package?

It was snowing when I hived my bees and 34 degrees, they did just fine. I put on lukewarm syrup at the same time and kept the hives warm until I hived them.

Re: Hive Inspection Not So Good

Actually, if you feel a bee crawling up your leg it probably is a bee and if you push on it, it will sting you. It will also sting you if it crawls in between your jacket and the spot above your...

That's the only thing blooming in Alaska right now and they began to load it in two days ago. It gives us hope here! Willow is king here.........

I marvel at the anti-science comments. Surely, we are open to listening to scientific opinion. I enjoy and appreciate all sides of the fence. It's called being open minded as opposed to what seems...

Re: A bizarre result of a sting?

wow, I hope it resolves soon. I had an "invenomation" sting to my nailbed last summer it was unlike any of my other stings. The pain was horrific and it did not resolve for nearly 3 weeks. It...

    The Beez neez
I ordered from them also. They are a very small company so can definitely add the personal touch. I think it's good to keep things in perspective. I live so far away from...

Re: Disappointing interaction with Brushy Mountain

They were the first company I ordered from and were thoughtful, pleasant and answered all of my questions. I had backorder issues, but that was only in the top of the bee season. I suspect that's...

    Re: Honey Density

I bought a refractometer and my honey is setting on 18% from fully capped frames. It is pretty damp here but it is clear and delicious. I might recalibrate, but I think it's accurate.

I've always wanted bees...... moved to Alaska 6 years ago and married to a non-farmer/fisherman. I went to the Alaska bee association meeting last winter and I LOVED bee people. It felt like home,...

    Re: Is Honey Kosher?

This is about kosher designation, nothing else. If you don't want to label it as kosher, then don't. This would only be if you wanted to add a chunk of change on it and sell it to the jewish...

    Re: Is Honey Kosher?

I read an article about rabbis that travel to China to certify kosher. It has alot to do with what your honey comes into contact with and how you process it. So it's not really about the honey, but...

They just called me back, yellowjackets. I had a feeling when they described a basketball. I'm a bit relieved, it was kind of high for what I'm comfortable with.
