Hey I'm coming home for christmas this year and i am flying into Auckland, can i see these from the air. LOL.
Hi,
Try this one out.3634.
for the 10' platform I used 4 @ 2"x10" and 1 @ 4"x4". I have a sketchup file if you would like to pull dimensions. I would also like to add some type of wrap to the 4x4...
I like the idea of following Mother nature.

I Buy 1 x 12 x 12 for $12 a piece, this makes me two deeps,
I use a Freid blade thats extra thin, and rip the 12' board to 9 7/8", which leaves me around 1 1/2" to make all kinds of extras, like...
Hi All,
Well i have been playing around in sketch up and come up with this design. A 3/4" x 3/4" shim with 3/4" x 3/8" exists in 4 directions. 1/4" x 1/4" dado's allowing 1, 2, 3 or 4 compartments....
I like the idea of using a thinner follower. I'm leaning towards make a 3/4" shim to sit on/in the screened bottom board and drill an exit in each side, then i can configure the deep like a queen...
Another thing, I'm using Screened BB's and have made 16 so far, have any of you that also section off for nucs etc have any good ideas for bottom boards/bases.
Solid BB would allow for stacking of...
Good information, i never gave the hand hold contacting the dado.
Follower board, I'm guessing that is a snug fitting board with maybe a top contoured to fit where the frames normally rest?

Hi,
I'm in the process of building some Deeps and would like to cut a dado in the center of the short side, so they can also be used as nucs. I was just wondering what materials anyone doing the...
I bought from mann lake, then a couple days later i emailed them to inform them something was wrong with the order.
They provided me with a return shipping label and supplied the correct items for...
That is a very interesting read. something i will definitely try next year.

Stepping outside the box.
I think a nuc is essentially a hive so why couldn't the following [make increase] method be used.

He suggests...
I build deeps for about $6 each.
Intend to learn grafting next season, so queens should be cheap.
Flip side to these are labor costs. but i guess you still have to assemble a bought nuc.
Don't...
400% nucs, i only have one full sized colony.
1) how important those resources are i.e; Drawn comb.
2) how you can work/manipulate your bees when you have extra resources.
3) not to feed nucs with syrup too early, else they plug up all the...
Hi,
Okay, here's the result of my experiments as a beginner.
The main hive was started from a package on 23 June.
So far I have made four nucs from my available resources. actually it is amazing...
I'm a beginner, but just inspected my two nucs' i made a couple of weeks back. I used a frame of brood and a frame of honey/Syrup.
and three new frames of undrawn foundation. They both seem to be...
Hi All,
Well i just finished doing inspections of my single hive and two nucs i built, all three queens are laying like champs, my nucs are doing extremely well.
I wanted to post something that i...
I bought 1x12x12 from menards on sale $9, use a Freud blade which is narrower than a regular blade. So i can rip the board to 9 7/8 and have slightly over 1 1/2". I think i make 5 and 3/4 deeps from...
Horay for a tablesaw and a little time. I can build them for $6, with the scrape making SSB, Inner covers etc
Just this weekend i got a gallon of Valspar latex exterior, top line paint and undercoat in one, kinda steel blue, was a $38 gallon of paint, but i got it for $5. What a steal.

Hi,
Got a colony living inside an old square tube axle. it has a 2-3 inch opening on each end where they are entering.
How should i go about enticing them to live in a nuc.
