    Hello fellow beeks,

Need feedback. Popped the top on one of my hives to check sugar level. Mountain Camp method. They had bored (eaten) all the sugar underneath the top and created a sugar...

Re: Is treatment free possible for a newbie

I'm a rookie so can't comment, this will be my second spring treatment free. The original queens were also treatment free. So far so good. Very little mite counts. All hives currently with heavy...

    Re: Fruit Trees zone 8b?

Ouch!... I live in zone 7b and just planted Apple and Peach, 2 each, in my front yard. From all the information I've read you'd have to have a substantial orchard to benefit the bees as a...

    Re: Montain Camp Feeding?

A thought on using newspaper, etc. Unless you plan on the bees eating it all you may run into the obstacle of having to remove uneaten sugar sitting directly on the top bars given the paper is eaten...

Thank you Walt. Was hoping you'd have the time to chime in. Once the weather clears a bit today I will try for the slight of hand. No...

    Re: Condensation in hives

They're not wrapped, just slid in a bottom tray, in which I have removed and decided to go naked if you will. As a new beek going into my first winter I've found that anxiety at times rules over...

    Re: Condensation in hives

I would have to say an unqualified yes. They have been doing several orientation flights over the last few weeks and a fair amount of cappings on bottom tray. I associated it to the warm weather and...

    Re: Condensation in hives

Not at all. They to are quite active but definitely through observation hive one is stronger (size). Hive two was still working on there newspaper around the frames whereas hive one had it demolished.

No syrup, didn't want to risk removing the sugar block so I couldn't really tell about open frames of honey. One thing for sure these girls work hard so I can see where they may be breaking a sweat....

    Re: Condensation in hives

I would have to say that hive one has been going non-stop. Lots of activity, more so than hive two. Tough to call at this point it's Dec 14th and almost 70.

    Re: No Eggs

I am a new beek but my guess would be to first locate and ensure you in fact have a queen. Then go from there. Does she have adequate space to lay eggs, etc.

Yup. I figured on leaving that pathway open and if the girls want to prop up the screen it's on them. Wasn't too sure about the effect of the moisture hitting directly on the foam so I cut the...
