  1. Re: Ideas for "in line" filter and "automatic" valve

No that is nothing like your home hot water heater if what was described is true.

Challenger, I ask question on the forum because I do not know. I am sorry that it ticks you off and you think I...

Re: Tough lesson for a couple of first year beeks

Well we are both waiting then.
  3. Re: Where/how to store harvested supers until extraction day

Wonderful, you all keep saying you wouldn't bag them but you give no negative reason for it other than you don't want to do it. I gave reasons for why you might want to do it.
    Mind you I kept 3...
  4. Re: Ideas for "in line" filter and "automatic" valve

Your kidding? What does it take two days to get the heat to equalize?
  5. Re: Ideas for "in line" filter and "automatic" valve

Just smiling a bit. If it is vented it is an open system. So the heating element is on the bottom and you can replace it when it craps out? Jacketed vessels that I am use to would go around the...

Re: Tough lesson for a couple of first year beeks

Ah, so you water down the genetics and then requeen. That is not such a bad idea.
  7. Re: Where/how to store harvested supers until extraction day

Mark when I put the boxes on their side in the apiary (remember when I had that worm problem) there were every insect know to man except bees after those frames. Most of them looked like flies.
    A...

OK I see the picture. Doesn't answer my question.

    Re: Olive Garden Salad Jars

Find out who makes the dressing. I am sure it isn't Olive garden. From there it is a question of who you know. Look for the lowest paid employee in the shipping department and he/she probably...

    Re: Winter configuration

Nature provides. It is a question of do your bees want to do what it takes to survive or do they want some other colony to do the work for them and then beg for their existence.
    If they are beggars...

    Re: Winter configuration

See how easy it is. Try that and then micro manage all the others and then come back in the spring and tell me which method you like.

It might demoralizes them but do you end up with more of the same?

    Re: Olive Garden Salad Jars

Maybe all of the above. So sorry David.
  15. Re: Ideas for "in line" filter and "automatic" valve

Is it a closed system or do you provide the hot water and circulator? If it is closed I would think they would use oil not water.
  16. Re: Where/how to store harvested supers until extraction day

If it is hot and not on the hive the comb can collapse.
  17. Re: Ragweed: Is it or is it not a good resource for bees?

Yes, plants are different in different parts of the country so just go out in the field and see if you see bees.

    Re: Winter configuration

I will stick my neck out hear and say that less of that happens in 8 frame equipment. The cluster is nearly the size of the box so they just go up. If you have 10 frame equipment you could do an...

    Re: Winter configuration

I have 8 frame equipment and SBB so I shoot for 5 boxes and I have had 4 boxes make it. I suspect my conditions are milder than NH but the 5 box configuration is a surplus that the bees take...
  20. Re: Where/how to store harvested supers until extraction day

Doing so will keep out moisture and anything else that might be in his basement (the basement will be more moist then the apiary). I can see harm if you don't do it and see no harm if you do.

    Re: Incredibly aggressive bees

You did an inspection, you turned the hive, you moved the hive and then you moved the hive again. I think what is bothering the bees might be you. Hopefully the gyrations did not hurt the queen.
  22. Re: Where/how to store harvested supers until extraction day

If you put them in the celler they should be cool enough that is number one and I would also bag the boxes.

    Re: Olive Garden Salad Jars

My wife and I can't understand why the Olive garden parking lot is always full. But then, look at all the fat people. It is a McDonald's for grown ups.
  24. Re: Planting 1 1/2 acres of Yellow Sweet clover. Cost approx 150.00. Is it worth it

You are worried about losing chicory? I think you can mow it every other day and it will still come back.

I don't think growing a crop for bees is worth it. There should be another reason for...
  25. Re: Pregnant mother of four dies from bee stings

It sounds like she died from an aneurysm not bee stings, not that it matters to the family she left behind.
