Wow, it takes another Cheese-head to attempt to return the thread to it's intended direction. Good example, Wisnewbee.
Clearly life in denial is sweet, until the crash.

Do your own math. Do a search for reports of people catching multiple swarms from the same hive. Figure in what percentage they missed. Take the total swarms captured plus those missed, plus one, ...
If doing nothing about mites is best, then why are we not over run with feral swarms? Feral hives do exist, but they are few and far between.
Half of our operation is in 30 plus year old comb, so...
If I understand the OP correctly, I believe many of you have mssed his intent. Is he saying we should all "open our eyes" and critically test if our beliefs are grounded in truth and fact? As...

WLC - If you sprouted whole corn, then roasted, would you not get shorter saccharides that your microbes could use?

we used an early Spin float untill 1980. It did work netter with a gentle heat before entering the separator.I was never impressed with the job it did, but is sure was better than what replaced it....
Oldtimer - are the amino acid levels for feed bee available? If so, Kieth could then tell you why it is not as good as his product.

Bees build more comb when the population needs it. Focus on building the population first, then they will build.

I beg to differ. The workers in a hive have NO use for the drones, in that hive. A virgin from that hive will intentionally seek out drones from another hive to avoid inbreeding.
Life is all...
We use 2 gallon Paragon pails(Melrose Park Ill.), purchased thru BASCO. They have a lid that will reseal. We drill a hole and heat seal a SS screen from Lapp's, or Extrusion Supply(Waukesha Wis.)

Thank you Kieth for your time and information. Now go back to napping under that bus.....
Sheri likes your product. Let me know when you have smaller sizes available.

Takes the same amount of honey and pollen to make drones by weight as it does foragers, and drones just eat and fly.
So if 10 percent of your bees are drone, theoretically...
On a tangent, has anyone tested the effect of drought, etc. on the amino acid content of pollen? For example, does a plant that normal produces a well balanced pollen, produce an unbalance pollen...
Do you "sprinkle" the bees with syrup when you hive the package? It seems to distract/occupy them for a while. never had drifting problems.

I would suggest buying Strachen NWC, and following their recommendations EXACTLY. Of the last two batches, 50 and 60 each, all queens where accepted, and have only 2 per group fail in the first 2-3...
Do what Fred said.

Actually. his 400 lbs from 3 deep brood chambers is not that good. Per my "Scale hive report" of 2012, one deep made 150 lbs. Three deeps (added) made 450 lbs, and I did not have to use a step...
You can not use frames with old pollen, but the bees can, no worries. Mr Lyons knows.

Is there a negative to giving them too much room?
Yes, if it is still cold by you.
Our packages and survivors are still in one deep, until they fill that deep. That should happen next round....
You CAN have a larger honey yield with a one deep brood chamber, because you can harvest more of the honey. We run one deep brood chambers, and move the capped brood frames up to keep plenty of open...
They will do what ever they feel like that day. I would use the proper sized foundation.
