    Re: Honey tastes "smokey"

I didn't heat it, used a brush to get the bees off the combs I extracted
Had a strong taste to it, but not "Smoky" to me - I had BBQ pork to compare it too.

Know any good BBQ sauce recipes?

My question is, "what is she doing up there?"

I looked in the hives and see very little young brood, but lots of capped brood
wondering what happened - all 4 hives look the same - did I kill 4 queens at once?

    Re: Spring Supering Question?

    Riley,

I am going to do the same as you, I can't see the bees travelling up beyond what used to be the top of the hive to put more honey up there - thought they would just swarm. As soon as they...

    Re: Spring Supering Question?

I am in the atlanta area, and my bees have been bringing in lots of pollen as well.

I have a lot of honey still out there, that I don't want to extract as it is probably from the feed last fall. ...

Re: Harvesting Honey from winterkilled hive

That is what I did with mine, took the capped honey and put it on the lightest hives;, I let them clean out the uncapped, and let the ants take care of the pollen/cocoons, and dead bees.

    now it is...

    Re: Should I be concerned

I have hive top feeders on, and they are taking some of it, just seems that they are taking syrup preferentially when they have a box of honey in the basement.

Went thru my hives during the last warm spell (last weekend) and found the top boxes mostly emptied out, but lots of honey in the middle and lower boxes - will they go down to it? I was tempted to...

Re: Chinese royal jelly and U.S. queens?

I find it interesting that the US alone and honey bees specifically (not all countries and not all livestock) have been singled out by the WTO for "free trade" infractions.

I have seen them run right thru a #8 (8 squares/inch) screen, which is what I use for my SBB (I have oil pans under them)

    Re: Small Hive Beetles War

I took a dead out hive and placed it (on a stand) over an ant colony. SHB overran it and then the larva got to be ant food.

I knew fire ants had a purpose.
