    Re: Mowing around hive

I mowed in front and around mine all last summer and was never stung. They are extremely docile though. I put weed guard down under the hive so that I wouldn't need to use the weedeater.

    Re: Boiled eggs spiced, pickled

I do it similar to phil c. I usually use leftover pickle juice or what I like best is the juice from a jar of the pickled mild banana pepper rings. My 4 year old granddaighter loves them this way....

    Re: Hello from Kentucky

Welcome Clay! I was just down in Bardstown last month at a dulcimer festival. My first time in that part of Kentucky. Very nice country you've got there. Good luck with your bees.

    Re: lotion

I use 2/3 clean tallow to 1/3 beeswax. Melt in a double boiler and pour through cheesecloth a couple of times to filter. The put into tins of your choice.

Re: .177 pellet or air rifle nitro piston

I'll second the Gamo. Got to be the best one out there. They have one that's even killed a wild boar! I got to shoot the 1200 last winter and was very impressed with both accuracy and punch. Check...

    Re: Comb question

I'll feed with ziplock bags so should have enough room to put the inner cover on the first deep. I'll give that a try. I appreciate all the advice. I will mostly just have to hope the bears stay...

    Hi All,

Just installed my first hive 2 weeks ago. I checked them yesterday for the first time and found them building comb in a lump on top of the frames. I have a deep on the bottom and a deep...

    Re: Protecting my bee family

That sure looks like a yellow jacket. They are super aggressive and can both bite and sting multiple times, so watch yourself. We always waited until night time and pourrd a soup can full of gasoline...

    Re: Newbie in Western Maryland

Thanks for the welcomes! Kate, with the warm weather I think they could swarm most any time. My neighbor just got his first bees delivered yesterday and I helped him install them. I may get impatient...

    Newbie in Western Maryland

    Hi,

I just wanted to introduce myself. I live in Boonsboro, MD and although having helped with bees over 30 years ago (I was the muscle, not the brains), I never got into the whys and wherefors. I...
