Re: What in the world is this?

The comb is destroyed, those worm welded them together and pulling out the frame tore the comb up badly. Will start fresh with a new batch of bees in early April unless my other hive is strong...

Re: What in the world is this?

This was the hive that kept requeening last year. It has always been a weak hive. I thought that it was doing better at the end of the year.

Re: My syrup turned rock hard

I heat up to a boil 15 pints of water and then add 25lb of sugar, mix it up until I no longer see crystals on the large spoon, let it set for one day (to cool) and its worked great this fall. This...
  6. Re: Not complaining but is this the way it works?

Also strange but #1 hive was the aggressive hive and #2 was very mellow but now its opposite.
  7. Not complaining but is this the way it works?

This is my first year with 2 hives. Spring and summer both hives were doing good, lots of brood and honey stored. Then about 3 -4 weeks ago, I checked my hives after a month of just leaving them...

Where do you keep your unused sugar water, out in room temp or refrigerate?
  10. Glass top on beehive, what do you think?

Has anyone ever or would it even be practical to make a glass top cover for your hive so you can catch some of the action of whats going on inside. Or would this be a bad idea for some reason that...
  11. Re: No honey but there is brood, whats going on?

I went with the top feeder instead of the division board feeder here: https://www.dadant.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1302
and ordered some patties to help the girls out, I will have to...
  12. Re: No honey but there is brood, whats going on?

Thanks for the input folks, Jeff
  13. Re: No honey but there is brood, whats going on?

I am starting to feed them again tomorrow, front entrance feeders for now and will take advice on better feeders. Thanks for the info.
  14. No honey but there is brood, whats going on?

Went out to check my first year hives today (2). (it has been 3 weeks or more since I have peeked inside) Hive #2 has supersede cells in it almost every time I look inside and the numbers are low...

Re: Urgent need for help please.

I dont think that a vac will work in this situation either as there are multiple entrance/exit holes and by the way it looks the bees are following a "tunnel" to get in and out, I think they are...

Re: Urgent need for help please.

Good idea but this swarm is next door to a retirement home and in the entrance of a apartment complex so I am guessing that the owners will not wait that long for the bees to go before they call...

That is what I did, empty box on top. The gals seem to like the feeder as they empty it in a little over a day.
