Re: Bears and Bears and Bears Oh My!

All sound advice. And as for completing the circuit this is also dead on and I have proven it. Left the gate strands open so there was a break in the physical fence. I got a little complacent and...

    Re: Depressing.. Gotta tell ya

Keep your chin up man. I had 5 of 5 die out. No biggie, I already ordered 4 packages for spring. 2 after my first 2 hives died, and 2 yesterday when I realized the rest died. As mentioned above, ...

    Re: Back to square 1

For your first question... 2 were packages and they were not advertised as TF so they probably did not originate as TF. And 2 were nucs and I know the guy I got them from did treat. This is why I am...

    Re: Back to square 1

Thanks clyde. I will definitely look at those hives more closely. I was pressed for time today and was up to my knees in snow lol. I'll post my findings in the future.

    Re: Back to square 1

I did not treat at all last spring or this past fall. I am also not down on TF at all. I tried it and yes, I am assuming that it was mites that did my little yard in and that may be the wrong...

    Re: Back to square 1

I agree, however, of the first 3 dead outs earlier on, 2 of them had a lot of dead mites. I have full frames of honey, no moisture issues, and the last 2 to die were really strong going into winter....

Thank you all for your encouraging words. Believe me, I was not so calm, cool, and collected my first year. I was so anxious and nervous, that it just wasn't fun. I think it was oldtimer who...

    Back to square 1

Ok, Not really a question at all as more of a statement and an update for those who may have been playing along at home. a few months ago I posted How 2 of my hives died out and #3 was not looking...

I too appreciate all of the knowledge people share. My comment was not meant to be negative at all. It was just an attempt(apparently, a failed one) at some lighthearted humor. The "to exclude or...

    Re: ? About Hives

I wasn't attacking either side of the argument. I actually don't use excluders either. The point to my post was just simply preparing for all of the debate to follow.

Re: Emergancy Winter Feeding Help Needed

Hmmm. I am only in my second year so wait til more experienced people chime in, but I would probably disregard the 50 bees on top of the cover. They may actually be preparing to die. Is your...

In addition, make the sugar moist. Lay down the paper, spray it with water, then layer your sugar. I.e. pour 1 inch of sugar then mist, then another layer of sugar and mist and so on. If you just...

    Re: Short warm spell

Syrup needs to be 50 degrees for them to take. If your nights are 30 degrees and it only warms up to 65 for a few hours, the syrup will not warm up to the needed 50 degrees. Leaving the syrup in...

    Oldtimer,

I am not in disagreement at all. And you are correct, I just started reading Michael Bush's book and that is what got me thinking about treatment free. I have not made any decisions or...
