Re: share my long lang thoughts

Same here. I couldn't figure a good access method without rolling many bees or repeated sliding/shuffling from one end to the other. I'm sure a lot was being really green, but swarm control was...

    Wax dipping in Houston TX

I'm looking for anyone in the Houston area that has a wax dipping system. How do the boxes perform in this environment? Would it be available for use?
  3. Re: when is the best time to start ??????

And i'm planning next year only to realize i need to find another location. Too many bees in my back yard in Houston can't be good for neighbor relations :) oh, i need more woodenware too... Where...
  4. Re: when is the best time to start ??????

I'll add that you will quickly need twice as much woodenware as you plan for. This whole addictive thing looks like an inexpensive hobby from the outside. Even ignoring all of the "gee, it would ne...

Re: Panic - How Many Queens do I Have?

You can smoke them thru a queen excluder. You should be able to search for details better than I can type. :)
  6. Re: Oxalic Acid Vaporizer with Temp Controller

Some of those babies may have gotten hot enough. :)
  7. Re: looking for DIY KISS langstroth nuc plans

X2, I'm trying how to get more hives. I can't get decent 1x lumber for the price of cut, unassembled bodies shipped to me. I keep trying to find less expensive alternate material with no luck. I...

    Re: need some advice..

Y'all are assuming he can wait for Spring. I've had several calls like "take them out or I'm going to spray because ..."

Yes, he is enthusiastic, but there are a lot worse things a 15 year old...

    Re: Bees stayed behind!

Unfortunately, I have been surprised several times by removal discussions with educators, some teaching science. Their "honey bees" produce paper wasp nests...

Re: Let's make a better vaporizer

The problem with any heating method is control and ensuring it isn't overheated and burned instead of sublimated. Those have way different chemical results. Maybe some sort of thermostat control...

Re: Let's make a better vaporizer

I've been thinking about the same thing. Forget the battery/inverter; that heat gun would drain it very quickly.

I am concerned with dosage, but I have seen comments that it could be very high...

Re: Junction Texas Bee Keepers HELLO

Howdy, it is a bit far for me, but there are others on here out your direction. Pictures would help anyone involved, if you can post them.

    Re: State Bee Brand

I understand the intent and that the inspector can allow things, but some things are spelled out clearly. I also know you can be within the letter of this law and "press" it and it wouldn't be...

    Re: State Bee Brand

3/8" won't do. The regs say "in figures at least three-quartersof an inch high". So, you could use something 2+" tall. Have fun fitting that on a frame...:D

I was assuming there was a lot of snow. :D

What locker are you refering to?
  18. Re: New queen, almost made the same mistake!

He was talking about a candle in one post I found, but then he referenced his grand idea.

We (I) have hijacked this thread. Sorry.

    Re: Wild bees won't stay

Maybe it is the gene pool, but i've lost 50% of my cutouts. I always have brood and normally put the queen in a clip for several days. They stick around about 5 days after i release her and i think...

Re: Adding bees to a nuc

If you don't want to add a frame, you could shake a frame of nurse bees in front of it. They will beg right in.

  23. Re: Honey Bee Health Coalition releases Varroa Management Guidebook

Well, "they" say the magnet and copper bracelets fix all sorts of ailments. I know I read that on the Internet somewhere.... :lookout:

Seriously, I really want the non-treatment route to work;...
  24. Re: Has anyone ever got stung trying to mark a queen that looks like this?!

Why do you need one of these? Just use the Palmer method. Carefully pick them up by the wings then gently grasp the head with your bare fingers. :)

Re: I think I lost my queen

The point is that you may have a virgin or recently mated queen in the hive. If you add eggs and very young larva and they start queen cells with said larva they don't have a queen. If they don't...
